At the end of the day we got the job done!
We seemed to make hardwork of Cardiff who I thought looked poor, but we seemed to invite them onto us and let them play.
Lots of chances were not taken we the normally composed Vale being the chief offender.
We got lucky with the 1st goal, but the second was class with Edwards bringing out of defence and Burrell putting it away.
The rotation policy is working well getting all players upto speed.
Yes the fixtures have been kind to us but 10 out of 12 is better than expected.
Mom today was Lamptey, this boy is class and today was playing out of position.

My first full 90 I have watched so far, and I didn't see what all the fuss is about regarding the keeper's distribution.. Was expecting to see prime Pirlo pinging balls around.
Thought we looked decent, and felt we could step it up second half swapping Lloyd out.
The 4 man sub made us much weaker, with the Chair substitute improving us a bit later, assuming those subs were forced/planned in terms of minutes.
Lamptey looks class.. and not like a player who has come back from a bad injury, which seems very exciting.
Vale missed a load of chances to do exactly what Ng did for Cardiff.

That was I thought a very good performance in many respects. I thought Cardiff played some decent football but I honestly never thought they'd score, they just looked like they constantly ran out of a cutting edge in the final third. Annoyingly their goal from a bloke who uses his left foot for standing on and not much else, which adds to the collection of worldies we've conceded.
But seriously, how many goals could we have ended up with? Burrell might have had five, Vale three, Lloyd, Saito. These weren't speculative, you'd expect them to be put away as often as not.
as others have said, we've got a spine of better than Championship players there now, Lamptey, Kamara and Edwards, we've got a solid looking back four, we've got options all over the field, we look good in possession, and organised defensively.
I really enjoyed tonight, but I suspect JS won't be happy with how we sat back so much after they scored. But it's early in the season, , we'll improve as we go along, and somewhere along the line, we're going to hand out drubbings more than once.

Entertaining match. Ironically, having a decent squad with plenty of options off the bench, worked against us tonight as we definitely lost momentum with the four changes. Lamptey was outstanding and great to see Burrell on fire again.

Great start to the season and we should've won 3 or 4-1 tonight at least. So good to see us creating those kind of chances on a consistent basis though, after so long watching us grinding out draws and wins by creating very little. Its actually fun to watch us again, there's a zip and purpose to our play. Although missing those chances did ironically mean we were hanging on a bit towards the end. I thought Cardiff were the perfect style for us to take advantage of tbh. Always trying for one extra pass, a bit Russell Martin like really. Our pressing destroyed them on so many occasions. I had my doubts about us signing Lamptey, I thought he might be a bit part player diminished with all the terrible injuries hes had, but that performance has really eased my concerns he had that Tanner on toast for much of the game. Brilliant performance and i hope Tanner got plenty of stick from the Stan Bowles stand following that awful challenge on him at the start of the 2nd half. Edwards Brilliant again, Burrell scoring and running his socks off up top. Theres a lot to like at the moment | | | |

They had a game plan to deal with Charles so took a much less risky approach with him today, still stuck a couple of beautiful long balls out Lamptey though and I thought his actual goalkeeping shone through today, he was excellent.
Onto the game...
It was a strange kind of game so open from the off, score could have been anything from the 2-1 to 7-3 I was quite impressed with Cardiff tbh I think they have a good manager there and a very attacking way of playing (4 upfront at times) and will do well this season. But..
Man we look a good team.. all over the park. Vale had one of his 4/10 games yet still played some key passes in the build up and Mad Ben got done at the back post again but that aside. Ronnie and Jimmy were pretty rock solid and Ronnie looks as good in midfield as he does at centre back pure Glen Roeder vibes.
Madsen and Kamara are a dream midfield both so good on the ball, Kamara providing grit and drive and able to take the ball on the turn and beat players with ease looks a class above. Madsen able to thread passes that open teams up .
Alfie Lloyd and Burrell look a really good partnership an absolute handful for Cardiff. Delighted for Alfie he was fantastic tonight. Should have scored but frankly (given we know his shooting is not the best) should have gone down as it was stonewall penalty. But his link up play and energy was fantastic. I thought that was as good as I've seen Burrell play, a proper complete centre forward performance.
Not a fan of the four subs it cost us a goal as we were not quite so organised and I think Saito switched off for a bit but we dug in and saw it out.
Final word for Tariq Lamptey though, this kid is far too good for this division let alone us! Can defend, can attack, can dribble can pass. This is a top 8 premiership player, if he stays fit we will do well to keep beyond January.
I dont want to but I'm starting to get a little bit excited, I think this might be the best QPR team since Warnock and certainly playing some of the best football for years. Boro will be a real test and a test for Julian to get his tactics right this time against them [Post edited 3 Sep 0:02]

On reflection, and removing my qpr hat for a moment, what a fun game to watch from an attacking perspective.
Two teams trying to score goals to win the game rather than playing not to lose.
Some of our attacking combos snd movement was sumptuous. To me, there’s a clear progression in style of play and identity from last season, with more players in the squad who can execute.
Not perfect obviously, but it’s early in season and I think we’ll get better. The style does leave us a bit open and we might occasionally get too deep, let’s see if that improves over time.
Much rather be wondering when we’re going to take one of our chances rather than wondering when the next chance is coming.
I recall Lamptey doing well for me briefly in fantasy league when he first burst onto scene at Brighton. Never did I think he’d end up with us, and when it happened I felt sure he’d be much diminished. But so far the signs are very good. Let’s hope he can stay fit and maintain form.
So much to like overall, Boro will of course be a step up in test. Intrigued to see how we fare. | | | |

Stephan took a risk last night and it paid off (thinking about 3 game weeks etc.), think now he has stronger squad, more likely he will do this. I would expect the starting line up to be changed again for Boro who will be a much better opponent than Cardiff. The team/squad overall look fitter and up for it. |  | | |

Can’t agree the subs lost momentum - that was already lost. The subs were late if anything. The problem was they didn’t improve us with the exception of Adamson who was better than the injured and out of sorts Mbengue.
The issue was less personnel than formation: we sat back, and Varane went even deeper.
Would like to know whether Stéphan encouraged that or the team just played with two much fear. | | | |
