Can't get my bottom E to erm..E 08:39 - Jan 27 with 2646 views | Metallica_Hoop | I recently took up the guitar again, all was well until I re-strung my guitar with Super slinkys and I cant get the bloody thing to hit E. I use an electric tuner which works pretty well but just cant tune this string. Have I wound it incorrectly? Any advice welcome. I'm a noob so nothing technical please. I have two fender spare sets should I just put a new string on? I think the gage is similar.

All I can think of is you haven't wound the string around the machine head sufficiently before tightening. Either that or the machine head is slipping and you need a new one. If so you could tune a tone or even two lower til you can replace it. What guitar do you have ?

An SGR, it's a nice beginner guitar. I'mm pretty sure its not the head the shit strings it came with tuned fine. I tried de-tuning but it sounded really wrong and I'm tone deaf.

Can't get my bottom E to erm..E on 09:34 - Jan 27 with 2600 views | colinallcars | I use super slinky myself most of the time with no trouble. Try taking off the B string and run the E string up to that machine head and see if it holds If it does then the E head must be slipping under pressure. Can't think of anything else except to try another E string from another set to see if the original E is faulty, but I've never had any trouble with Slinkies. [Post edited 27 Jan 2018 9:51]

I did but it wasn't much help so I thought i'd be more specific and ask, the guy I work with plays and he couldn't give me any advice apart from re-string it. So I thought i'd ask before I did.

Anyway, if the machine head isn’t slipping just chuck the string and take a new one. I use the GuitarTuna app. (it’s free) [Post edited 27 Jan 2018 14:57]

Can't get my bottom E to erm..E on 20:29 - Jan 27 with 2303 views | ted_hendrix | Met, After restringing the guitar I always tune the guitar just below pitch and then one string at a time I then pull up each string about six inches (this stretches the string) I then tune the guitar from the bass string on wards and then re-tune it again. Slowly strum an 'E' Major chord and away you go (works for me) When I restring my 12 string acoustic I have to take a fcking day off work I have it tuned two steps down and it takes bloody ages. Good luck

Can't get my bottom E to erm..E on 20:31 - Jan 27 with 2292 views | Bluce_Ree | The best way to stretch strings is to pull them away from the neck at the 12th, 7th and then 5th frets. A few secs at each point does it,

If I'm ever before a firing squad & they offer me a last request then I'm going to ask to restring & tune my 12-string. They'll be gone some time before I'm done.

Can't get my bottom E to erm..E on 22:31 - Jan 27 with 2234 views | colinallcars | I stretch new strings by pulling up at about the twelth fret and applying finger vibrato as practised by blues guitarists since the year dot. In my early days there were no Super Slinky or suchlike. We used to use adapted banjo strings for the top two which were nice and light and great for blues licks.

Can't get my bottom E to erm..E on 14:23 - Jan 28 with 2039 views | colinallcars | Glad it's sorted, very unusual to get a set of strings with a faulty one. A friend of mine who still plays regularly did say there was a period of quality control with Ernie Ball some years back but it's OK now.
