I’ve loved Little Richard since I was a snot-nosed oik listening to my mum’s records. But as Raheem Sterling took Richard’s look so Richard took Esquerita’s look ... and sound. I see it not as ripping off more as passing down a shamanic thing. But I can’t help but wonder what Esquerita thought penniless washing car windscreens in NYC in the mid-eighties before eventually dying of aids.

One day, someone will re-mix that and ruin it.
Though not remixed, I think it was Carl Perkins who did a very lame version of this song back in the day probably to appeal to a more grown up white American middle class audience. Little Richard like Elvis and others was considered a degenerate and a curse to popular music at the time. How wrong they were. Carls style met somewhere in the middle between R n R and that of the evergreen crooners. Whatever, it was dull as dishwater.
Richard was a master of his craft and one of the greatest stars of 50's music, much of it now sadly overlooked or forgotten. RIP
There aint half been some clever bastards.

Pat Boone did an anaemiac mass-consumption version of Tutti-Frutti for 1950s apartheid America.
