...that nice Mr Peter Alliss won't be down for breakfast. Though never really a fan of the game, I could easily enjoy a round of golf with his easy listening measured commentary.

Poll: Thank God The Seaons Over.

Yes one of the good guys. Sad to hear that. He contributed to a book I wrote called The Bible Of Golf about 10 years ago and was one of the very few people who actually read it... and liked it. Very nice guy. Very tall. RIP.

Never knowingly right.

RIP Peter Alliss, great commentator on a great game.

Remember him too on Around with Alliss, sort of pro celebrity chat show while having a game of golf, really good format that he carried off perfectly. Some top golfers on it week on week.

Not a huge golf fan either, but I'd often put the golf on while I was working just to listen go his voice and to bask in his soft drawl.

Bless.

In the 70’s he did Pro-celebrity golf. Two professionals playing with two celebs. Proper celebrities of the day, from Goeneagles. Was always great viewing. Up there as a commentator with Richie Benaud and Brian Moore. A sporting legend.

Poll: Where will Clive put QPR in his new season preview

One of my first jobs was to collect Golf Course designs and work on them turning them into presentation material for Peter Alliss and Clive Clark. Used to go to his home in Sunningdale I think it was - he would always invite me in and offer a coffee or tea. His elderly mother who was confused and would appear and he was always so good with her. Lovely man and golf will never be the same without him.

and he obviously upset Charlie Sale at some point, who hated him - that marks him out as a good man in my book!
