This Sporting Life - great film. As has been said, Gregory's Girl is ace.
I watched The Rookie with a banging hangover one Sunday morning, and was crying so much and so often, that I was having to communicate with my wife in the kitchen via text message because I couldn't get the words out. It's a Disney film about a High School teacher trying to make it as an MBA player, so it might not have provoked the same extreme reaction without the chronic hangover. Brian Cox is the Dad, and he's always great.
McFarland, USA was a film I watched on the plane when flying to the US at the end of 2019.
Released in 2015, tells the story of a high school XC team from a minority/poverty area school who in time beat all the other schools to become state champs.
Features a line in it where the coach tells the slowest member of the team he still makes a difference to the team because he's pushing runners from other schools back - which funnily enough is something we always tell people in our own running clubs when trying to encourage them to take part in the leagues we enter as a club!
Escape to victory is the greatest sports film in history.
Followed by field of dreams.
Noooooooooo! Field of Dreams is dire! Mrs Sheen dragged me to it because she loves Kevin Costner. The couple in front of us walked out after two minutes, and we both wished we had the guts to do the same.

Slap Shot - now you're talking.

FoD philistine
It's on Prime, we could watch it and get Brian to do a running commentary.
What better way to warm the heart on a wet day in lockdown.
I'm a motorcycling nut, so I'd have to recommend 'Closer to the Edge'. From the Wiki blurb:
"The film charts the build up to the 2010 Isle of Man TT races, and then documents each of the races and their results. These take place along public roads through the Isle of Man, covering 37.73 miles of terrain, and packed with thousands of spectators who have come from all over the world. The film features racers including Guy Martin, John McGuinness, Conor Cummins, and Ian Hutchinson."
It's shot in 3D too, so the BluRay is spectacular!

Slap Shot made me laugh so hard. I watched it with my Dad one night one the return from the pub. Happy days. I must see it again and see if it is still as funny sober.
Another vote for closer to the edge. the bravery / stupidity is amazing.
