| Try Something Different - Build Team Around Chair 11:22 - Apr 10 with 1702 views | ParkRoyalR | Posted before about moving Chair into the 2 alongside Field as see him as a similar player to Tjaronn Chery who I thought had one of his best games away to Forest when dropped deeper into this position. I think moving Chair into this position could turn a number of our current weaknesses into strengths: Current Chair & Team Weaknesses: 1) Chair plays best with another 10 (Willock / Eze) and Willock is out and GT not quite cutting it 2) Chair struggles to get his head up and see the early pass when crowded out around the opposition penalty box 3) Team transitioning the ball too slowly from defence to midfield to attack with no JonJo Shelvey type option to play a long pass quickly, Dozzell has done this once this season, but similar to GT, is not quite cutting it (and I don't think he will) Chair Strengths as 1 of the 2 CDM's: 1) Great engine, will to win, excellent ball control, difficult to dispossess, can tackle (all things we are not currently seeing in SJ) 2) More space to get his head-up like Leon Brittan did and play more of the excellent 20-50 yard passes which he has in his locker, similar to home game when he hit Gray from 70 yards, hitting our attacking LWB in way Barbet hits our attacking RWB, making us less one-sided and easy to defend against 3) More space if arriving late unmarked around the edge of the box to shoot from distance as he did on loan at Stevenage 4) Complimented by Field who is left-footed, good in the air, excellent in the tackle and more defensively minded We need to do something as its not working, Chair does'nt work well as a sole 10 and as we saw with Manning away to Millwall other season, sometimes a change of position for a player can be the spark that player and the team need. | | | | |

The only trouble is, he can't tackle so needs protection the sort of role Field can provide. Too often in games Chair drifts out wide and becomes a passenger, if he is to become a top class player needs to become a more integral playmaker in the centre of the park.

I'm not 100% convinced Chair could play that CM role but I'd love to see it tried, perhaps in a three with two strikers ahead of him.

Despite only being 4'6" he's got enough physicality to his game to be in the thick of midfield, and although we've seen nowhere near enough of it this season he's got a real eye for a smart long pass. (Would help if he had a striker worth the name to pass to, but first things first...)

I'm fairly sure he is pretty solid in the tackle, seem to recall this from his early days with us, could be wrong mind, but he's quick over 5-10 yards, a solid unit and brave, and sure he can tackle better than an aging SJ, over-indulgent Dozzell and I'm still 50/50 on Amos when it comes to tackling.

Haha, similar, might be a bit like moving the chairs on the deck of the Titanic but Warburton has to do something radical, and rely on those players who have his back, as watching SJ yesterday who was the man in the middle that made this team tick for 12 months, and I'm really not sure he has the desire to get back to that level. Chair was almost crying come off after Sheffield United game, whereas SJ was happy to stroll off and take the applause from the Fulham fans, knowing how much grief Warburton is getting, I know who'd I'd rather put in the middle to try and turn this run around and I've been a big SJ fan up til recently, but he's so lack lustre of late its embarassing.

He is talented and a trier, and seems to hurt when things aren't going well for the team...unlike some. Just don't think Warburton has the imagination to change things up.

I didn't see that, but I did see Johansen looking very downcast after yesterday's game.
