Winter viral infections/flu/Covid. 15:33 - Dec 16 with 2596 viewsSnipper

Have any of you had that horrible viral infection that’s been going about for the last 6-8 weeks?

I had it early November, and subsequently gave it to the missus. It meant we couldn’t go to Ireland the first week of the World Cup. We were both testing negative for Covid.

My missus was struggling to shake hers off, and was just getting back to normal when she tested positive for Covid, which I then caught.

I know of loads of people who’ve had this viral infection, and it really lingers.

These lockdowns have weakened people’s immune systems.

You can add me to the list. Got it either after Bristol or Sheffield away. Missed four home games already owing to it. Nagging cough and a cold in the middle. Seen the doc today (yes a rare visit after booking some 2 1/2 weeks ago) and he wants to see how it goes over the next four weeks. Already had antibiotics and various other medicines. I can only hope it settles soon but the weather is not helping.

Is this the one where your throat suddenly dries up completely and the only way to breathe is cough your head off?

Watery eyes, runny eyes, an occasional kind of ‘sneeze/cough’ something I’ve never known until after Covid died down.

Like queensparker it has become a Christmas ‘gift’ last few years.

'er indoors Jo is off work with a rasping cough that wouldn't look out of place in a Khmer Rouge re education camp in the Monsoon season dressed only in a hemp sarong. not poistive for covid but strung out to heavens high on erythromycin.

I've had 3 vaccine shots and had covid 3 times times since my last shot.

Feel Tired all the time and sluggish, like i'm walking through japanese knotweed.

Don't need no politicians to tell me things I shouldn't be, Neither no opticians to tell me what I oughta see.

yeah, I almost believed you there, but 'seeing a doc' is totally unrealistic.

Edit - Get well soon!

My kids seem.to bring back a cold a month from school/ nursey respectively. Then the wife and I get it and just as we get over it the cycle starts again. Horrible. At the moment I have a bad chest and cough which has been lingering on for about 10 days now. Wake up with a tight chest and mucusy cough, by mid morning I feel alright but by the evening time I'm feeling shite again. Luckily I've packed up.work now until January so only one thing for it... Hennessey.

Without wanting to bring down the anti-vax brigade on top of us...
But if you ask me we have learnt nothing after this pandemic as a nation.
I regularly take the tube and I am sure everyone is in and out of shops/supermarkets...
Literally no one wears a mask and in particular the people coughing and sneezing over everyone else don't bother so it is no wonder infection rates are as high as ever. There was some woman in Morrisons yesterday literally coughing all over some of the fruit and veg.
I work in a small team and one member came in clearly pretty unwell and coughing all over the office and then said 'oh don't worry it's not covid!' No but it is clearly something that none of us want to have either mate. Our boss wisely sent him home.
So on top of the after effect of the lockdowns that is why everyone seems to be sick.

This isn't an 'anti-vax' post, but I do think that people's immune systems may have been compromised by having 2, 3, 4 or even 5 mRNA injections in fairly quick succession. This, along with a lack of exposure to the general virus 'field' due to lockdowns and so on, may correlate to a higher than normal percentage of people getting sick, and for the illness to be more severe than normal.

Before people jump on me for saying this, I am only looking at this from a scientific point of view. mRNA technology *is* still experimental and we still don't know the long term impact of it on people's immune systems.

Whatever the reason, I hope everyone recovers in time for Christmas! I have developed a cold and nasty cough in the last few days, although it seems to be (touching wood, crossing fingers) fairly mild.

In the meantime, I've returned home to find the water pressure has dropped so that I only have a trickle of water coming out of my taps. Thames Water are, apparently, "looking into it". Happy days.

I've had it all this week but I am prone to this kind of thing as I always end up with a chest infection. One of my friends has ended up in hospital with pneumonia too.

Feeling better today for the first time in a week, so glad I'm going to be okay for next week.

Hope no-one gets it for Christmas and everyone feels better soon.

I've had congestion but not much of a cough, just that and feeling wiped out all week, and my kidneys feel a bit sore. Think it's my kidneys anyway.

Would quite like it to shift soon - found 10 ciprofloxacin in a drawer from 2017 which I'm now throwing at it.

As you say, we’ve learned nothing. Blaming vaccinations for catching stuff now is absolute nonsense. I can see why some may not want to wear masks but even washing hands when appropriate will cut the risk of catching these winter lurgies.

I get them from my adult kids, who all get it when they all huddle together for the football or for singing loud songs together at parties (or I'm guessing snogging). No chance of avoiding them when we're all in the same house.
