| Modicums of comfort 22:57 - Jan 20 with 2489 views | Myke | Back to back clean sheets for Walsh. Not exactly peppered with shots in either game, but still made some important saves. Reached 40 Points, which is more of a psychological thing. I tend to judge the season in ‘10’s’. 0-10.11-20 etc. In an ideal world you move onto the next ‘10’ after four games. We moved onto 31 after that epic last minute winner v Brum, NINE league games ago. So just a relief to get to 40. | | | | |

He looks more assured than before. Not overly rested but it's a start. Also looks a bit more comfortable with the ball at his feet

"more comfortable with the ball at his feet" is great to hear, sdm. I saw the same on a Rangers WhatsApp chat earlier. I think that was probably his biggest opportunity to improve, so that's good to hear. We've seen that he can do it, but doing it at senior level under increased pressure is, of course, much harder to do. So, good for him.

I guess with a broken wrist not much else he could do. What I also liked, can't remember if it was against West Ham or Stoke he was getting crowded at set pieces and wasn't catching the ball cleanly. So opted to punch. Assessed the issue and adapted. I do think he helps the defenders as they know he will tend to come for things

But dear oh dear Rangers get yourself sorted ready for Saturday, I cant bear the thought of losing to those film star people. Tosspots.

Felt tonight the game was calling for something different. Sadly nothing on the bench to offer that. Hopefully the new guy will be like a Burrell MK2 and pester a few defenders. Like you said though, poor game and should have won. We move on in hope. It's called supporting your club | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Not at all Brian. I was saying I would hope as he couldn't use his hands in training he used the time to work on dealing with the ball at his feet. Looks like he has or the confidence of having Dunne and Cook in front of him helps. They won't give him a hospital pass

I'd go that bit further and say he looks a different bloke altogether. Did well at West Ham, which was a real test for him, and hasn't conceded a goal in two games. Harder tests are coming, but fair play to him on his return.

Madsen the only forward thinking player that ever looks comfortable with a ball at his feet, that is worrying. Dunne and Cook have been immense, in fact the defence, Hayden, have all been decent. To me, pretty much all season, the defensive side has looked top half, whilst the attacking part has looked bottom half. That said, the goals scored/conceded stats say the opposite. It feels like Madsen and Burrell have carried the attack all season, the contribution from the three behind the forward has and continues to be woeful. I’m not sure there’s been a single assist from Smyth and Dembele in the Championship to date. Vale cameo, gulp, looked something like the player who started the season. He’s the only other player beyond Madsen who can find time and space, let’s hope he’s fully recovered this time.

If Vale can get back up to speed he should be on the right for the moment. He doesn't have the speed of Dembele but a better football brain and can see a pass too

Vale only had a few minutes on the pitch, delivered the best cross of the night which Bennie might have got on the end of had he tried going for the ball with his left foot (bless him he did try all night, sadly it just looks like he's not up to it at this level). Walsh made the best save of the night and looked pretty solid which is good to see; given his first twenty minutes at West Ham where he looked very nervy, perhaps unsurprisingly. We can only hope that Ben Williams moves Kone off the pub and kebab diet...

| Modicums of comfort on 09:23 - Jan 21 with 924 views | Rsole | On the subject of forward thinking/moving/progressive players - are we saving Edwards so we can kill him to death for the Netflix cameras on our beautifully prepared carpet of a pitch ? Or is there a greater plan for him ? I would have thought 20-30mins - maybe in midfield - might have done him (and us) some good last night. I’d also be looking hard at injuries to Dunne snd Cook too. Dunne did his shoulder again last night but carried on regardless. At some stage he needs a rotation so why not start that process early ? Or switch to a 3 and share the load with some greater flexibility. If Oxford have worked it out, I’m sure more astute teams have a plan for our rigidity. | |

I don't think there's any need to rush Edwards in, which is fine as defensively we look solid. Unless like you say Dunne is carrying an injury. Of course if Ronnie knows how to score a goal or two, that would definitely be helpful!

Dunne went down hard on his shoulder last night and I thought it was the end of his game but he just got on with it. Whilst he’s more mobile now, he was carrying something else earlier in the season - he could barely jump at times. At some point, he will need a break and in a 3 game week I was suggesting some game time for Edwards would have been reasonable - possibly not as direct replacement. Just some time in his legs and some awareness of what his teammates are doing. He could have done a job alongside Madsen for example. Or we could have switched to a 3 at the back and chased the game a bit harder by pushing the FBs up the pitch and maybe carrying the ball out to them. Either way, he would have had some game time and that would ease him in - but we don’t appear to have the flexibility to do that, so it’s going to be a direct swap at some point I suspect. I just hope that’s before we lose another 1st choice player.

| Modicums of comfort on 09:43 - Jan 21 with 868 views | Beckenhamhoop | I thought Bennie did really well initially, won three headers which all went to team mates, retained the ball well and brought others into play. He drifted out of the game for most of the second half but no one was playing well at that stage. An encouraging first start of the season. To say he isn’t up to the standard after one showing, in those difficult conditions, is a bit hasty. | | | |

Well I've seen him play before, he's tidy enough but I don't think he's the answer to our goalscoring problems. Will be very happy to be proved wrong! Plus I think last night was his first 90 minutes for us?

I think Wrexham are on Disney. Maybe Jimmy gets a rest for Wrexham, who knows? This squad really cannot afford any more injuries that is for sure

I think you are right about Disney. My bad - so many Apps, such poor content on most with the odd exception. I’m predicting the starting line up and system for that game is exactly the same but with RND in at LB.
