Back to back clean sheets for Walsh. Not exactly peppered with shots in either game, but still made some important saves.
Reached 40 Points, which is more of a psychological thing. I tend to judge the season in ‘10’s’. 0-10.11-20 etc. In an ideal world you move onto the next ‘10’ after four games. We moved onto 31 after that epic last minute winner v Brum, NINE league games ago. So just a relief to get to 40.

Thought Walsh did well and was kicking with both feet. Centre backs very strong.

Thought Madsen was MoM by a street. He is so important to us. Made one missed pass that drifted out-he put his hand up to apologise straight away. Other than that he used the ball well and looked up, often playing the ball forward-such sorcery!

He's played virtually every minute this season and is almost certainly the first name on the team sheet. Props Nicholas!

Had a chuckle at a chant behind me
"There's only one Nicky Madsen
He used to be sh*t but now he's all right"

I'd go that bit further and say he looks a different bloke altogether. Did well at West Ham, which was a real test for him, and hasn't conceded a goal in two games.

Harder tests are coming, but fair play to him on his return.

I agree. Think Nardi is on his way out and the plan is for Walsh to be number one and Hamer as the backup. Previously a lot of people said Walsh needed a chance, so there must be something there. I think having a settled defence will help him. He has done well the last two game. Although our forward play has been lacking and the games themselves have been poor, we have looked solid and not so long ago those two games would have been 1-0, 2-0 loses. Hopefully some attacking threat when players return.

Vale only had a few minutes on the pitch, delivered the best cross of the night which Bennie might have got on the end of had he tried going for the ball with his left foot (bless him he did try all night, sadly it just looks like he's not up to it at this level).

Walsh made the best save of the night and looked pretty solid which is good to see; given his first twenty minutes at West Ham where he looked very nervy, perhaps unsurprisingly.

We can only hope that Ben Williams moves Kone off the pub and kebab diet...

WTF. Bennie has had 2 senior starts and you've written him off.

It makes me laugh with some on here. We've been screaming for the club to bring young players through and when they play they're deemed not good enough immediately. Ridiculous.

The big positives over the past 2 games is that Walsh, Bennie, Kolli and Esquadinha have all played a lot of minutes, and we haven't lost.
Don't underestimate how impressive, but also important, that is for them and the club going forward.

Give the youngsters a chance FFS.

See my follow up post.

I just don't think he'll make it at this level (he definitely needs a loan out), not even sure that playing as a forward is his strong point. I'll be very happy to be proved wrong!

Keepers save the reason we got a point.

Madsen the only forward thinking player that ever looks comfortable with a ball at his feet, that is worrying.

Dunne and Cook have been immense, in fact the defence, Hayden, have all been decent. To me, pretty much all season, the defensive side has looked top half, whilst the attacking part has looked bottom half. That said, the goals scored/conceded stats say the opposite. It feels like Madsen and Burrell have carried the attack all season, the contribution from the three behind the forward has and continues to be woeful. I’m not sure there’s been a single assist from Smyth and Dembele in the Championship to date.

Vale cameo, gulp, looked something like the player who started the season. He’s the only other player beyond Madsen who can find time and space, let’s hope he’s fully recovered this time.

Yeh i rate Vale, decent player. Shame he wasn't brought on earlier. Hopefully he starts getting more minutes. I know he struggled in a couple of games before his injury , but i would persist with him. Looks a better player then Dembele imho.

There have been one or two modicums (modicii?) that stand out:
* Walsh, since his return has been like a new signing.
* Ronnie's back.
* Some decent loans out (Morrison, Cooper, Lloyd) which might benefit the club in the future.
* Despite the squad being struck down by plague, bad vibes and THE CURSE, we haven't plummeted into our usual tailspin.
* Madsen's improvement hasn't been a flash in the pan.
* Jimmy Dunne has been outstanding.
* Everything Mbengue does makes me laugh. New Cult Hero.

Walsh is a changed man in the last three games. And also does seem to have given confidence to our centre back pairing also.

Its generally been our attack that has been so good this season. So despite these factors not going so well, as always every great team is built from the back first and Edwards here now too, so all good.

Am glad we have brought in another centre forward hopefully he can develop nicely too

If Vale can get back up to speed he should be on the right for the moment. He doesn't have the speed of Dembele but a better football brain and can see a pass too

Unfortunately Dembele doesn't have the speed of Dembele either at the moment.
