6.00 am train Baltimore to NY Penn station.
Gazing out the window as the sun rises bring into focus huge river's and grass lands, graffiti I can’t read, prosperous and neglected neighborhoods, beaten up old running train stock and mad city skylines. Amtrak east coast train track views.
Legends bar NY run by a diehard genuine Man Utd fan whose work ethic and attention to detail gave gravitas to his t shirt fittingly adorned with the words guv,nor. Two floors. Up top a huge area with wall to wall tv screens for the big occasions one surprisingly the guvnor telling me for South American matches. Downstairs a basement type area with little alcoves again with more tv screens. Huge flags partition the areas creating an open and intimate spaces.Teams flags drape ceiling to the floor, Boro reds USA, Ny Owls and of course making its debut a new NYQPR. Behind the flag the clubs very own designated open standing/seating area.
On arrival the only Ranger there was Joe on holiday and a full production crew from The EFL show and someone called Billie Sharp. Here in the US CBS have subsidiary channels, Paramount+ show the games and a magazine type format show called Golazo. They had during the day live feeds with that Sharp guy linking live to the studio. Us rangers fans got full and center and in full view of the millions watching. It was a bit surreal seeing yourself on the telly added by a 30 second delay. To the viewing public it looked packed and heaving, it wasn’t.
Fans from other clubs drifted in and at KO time the tally from my calculations was 2 Norrrwich, 1 WBA, 3 Stoke, 3 Swansea, 2 Bristol City, 1 or 2 Lychester City, 8 Sheff Weds and 18 Queens Park Rangers, yes 18.
Small club my arse.
Others have talked about the game however CBS had a camera on our group to record reactions and on the GOLAZO HT bit were dutifully shown. HT the journalist Geoff Shreeves became master of ceremonies. A quiz about who scored Rangers goals at that Man City game. Cisse and Mackie came out of my mouth to then be handed a signed green and white hooped shirt with the number 46 and the name OBIKWU. WHO? Never heard of him.That design and colour scheme is a credit as well to Francis artistic eye.
2nd half, I wish Chair would understand the joy and adulation he could get by being the assist at times. Game over a Q&A with Billie Sharp, shaking of hands and supporters of all teams drifting off.
It’s12.00 and my train home is at 7pm. Cheapest return. A full very good Irish breakfast and hearing how much from the Wednesday fans their distaste for their city rivals and out into the NY sunshine.
People watching, trying to find some Selvedge jeans, the abundant smell of weed, the largest dept store in the world Macey’s with original wooden escalators, figuring how to not get decapitated by an e bike, Olivia Dean playing 4, yes 4 nights at Madison Square Gardens, see Sam Fender thread, and an Indian supper up there as one of the best and the train home. I wanted to do more but the plates were killing me much to my wife’s amusement on sharing. NY equals comfy shoes, lessons learned.
A bit of a mad day. Watching a game from normally on my lonesome to be surrounded by fellow rs. How well we were represented is surprising and not surprising at the same time. Sorry guys too many names introduced but not remembered. I think Dunns is the master of ceremonies and the Genesis of this randomness. Thanks to all I met. Planning on returning in the winter, with more appropriate foot wear, train prices are ridiculously cheap if booked in advance so any fellow rs reading this in the home of the brave give it some thought. I was over in New York last week and had a few drinks in there, Barman recognised the QPR t shirt i had on and was glowing about QPR fans who come to watch. He was saying in the World Cup they had over 1,000 fans a day in the bar and recently had a Sheffield Wednesday fans forum with the new owner.

Good write-up Charm - the joy of the connection comes across clearly - it's so easy to feel dislocated football-wise over there.
I never made it to Legends - used to go to Nevada Smiths years ago, and by the time Legends was becoming more of a thing I was starting to think about leaving NY anyway. Next time I'm there on a match day maybe I'll head over. [Post edited 16 Aug 15:55]

In the late 70's, some of the then Kippax, morphed into the Guv'nors, Man City's main (e rd)'problem'. Up till then, Man Utd had had their way with their sky blue rivals, things changed considerable in the 80's. That's why I'd find his choice of shirt, unusual. [Post edited 16 Aug 18:47]

I didn’t put it on. My wife said I wasn’t in the photos.
I was just as intrigued by all the behind the scene stuff regarding the production company and chatting with them. They were quite taken back how many rangers in attendance and glad we started to score to get some reactions and an atmosphere. Loudest cheers were for all our goals though Wednesday gave it a good go. Was in the main bar at times not just in the corner.
All the UK pundits and presenters got relocated to New York to do this EFL thing. Not like the Champions league studio in Uxbridge. CBS are investing in this.

Thank you for coming all the way from Baltimore for this, and it was great to meet you and host you at the Football Factory. We can't wait to see you later this season!
The Football Factory is somewhere that needs to be experienced, as it's a real love letter to the game we love and Jack (the Guv'nor) has created an environment where the fans can make a part of it their own, and we certainly have.
We certainly have worked hard to ensure that we have created a home for QPR fans in the city and one where everyone is welcome, whether you are an ex-pat who misses home, or an American who has for some inexplicable reason, found QPR.
It's not always that busy, we don't always have CBS Sports down, but after the lip service that ESPN paid to their Championship coverage, having both the EFL and CBS Sports wanting to drive interest in the league over here has provided opportunities for the fans to really engage. The Charlie Austin weekend was unforgettable!
It's great to have the league back after the World Cup summer, and we look forward to meeting old friends and new faces, who'll become our friends! It's why we do what we do. | | | |

yeah it wasnt me mate. we sent a few messages when I was over but never met. 2022 was my last trip there, heard gun shots by my hotel and downtown was empty since covid. so since then I pick an away game (ravens) to goto and meet my more mates there... Cowboys played Ravens in Arlington TX Sept 2024 and thats how I met my now wife, then moved here to Fort Worth! funny how things work eh | |
