They have to do maintenance and upgrade work at some point, to be fair they plan it months in advance and publish it to the public 28 days ahead on their website.
Unfortunately they can only do so much work in the 3-4 hours at night when the current is switched off.
Although the upgrade and preparation work for the new Piccadilly Line trains is really dragging on. They keep finding all these safety issues, apparently the fleet they have ordered has got quite a few issues with it.

When did these weekend closures start ? Many moons ago I realise.
But, how did they perform the maintenance before these closures ?
I imagine the system and tools are more sophisticated these days.
Was London Transport managed better then ?

The Night Tube was introduced, what, ten years ago now? I guess before that they performed maintenance work at night (maybe every night).

Can't they just cut the night tube for a week or two at a time? Say between midnight and 6? Not that I know anything about this stuff admittedly.

So... On our line (Northern), we are shutting for Night tube next weekend at the North end for engineering work.

However, there is only so much you can do overnight. And footfall on the tube is higher nowadays too so

It is, but train cancellations (lack of train ops prob) causing delays

And dont go near central line either
