'Derby County charged by the EFL for recording financial losses in excess of the permitted amounts for the three-year period ending 30 June 2018.
The Championship club will now be referred to an independent Disciplinary Commission'

What happens now?

Depends on the club’s situation surely. 9 points at the time wasn’t much of a punishment for Birmingham at all for that season. Nine for Derby now at least puts them in a real scrap.

can't really base punishment on where they are in the league, should be a set number of points if you are found guilty. Take 9 points of any team in our league this season and it would significantly change their season.

As Clive points out though it's more important when the points come off, if it's delayed to next season then it's a bit pointless

Eh maybe, if Birmingham had their points deduction delayed till this year I think everyone (except Birmingham) would have been happier.

But it's a bit of a joke to make that an arbitrary decision about when it happens

thats one of the flaws in that you have to wait for financial results to be published which is usually second half of the season so punishment will be late in the season

I take your point but surely deducting points should be a punishment. If there are situations where a punishment does not inflict any kind of penalty then said punishment does not work.

They will get done fuc£ all compared to our punishment you just know it. There is something rancid about Derby. Take the Keogh/ incident, he was sat in the back of one car. Why would he be in the back unless there were two people in the front? Lawrence was driving one car, Bennett the other. Just putting it out there......

Isn't it already 'out there'? And though I hold no candle for the Rams, why is the club responsible for a couple of their players' (criminal) off the field irresponsibility?

Heart-breaking news

How about being forced to play eleven minutes extra, at the end of every game they are either drawing or winning 1.0

just a thought

Because they took no action against the criminals but punished the passenger.

I reckon they will do a deal whereby the FA disallow our goal against them at Wembley, award them the game and the cash prize to offset the financial losses now. Can.... you.... believe..... it?.... Probably!

Never knowingly right.

interesting to compare the EFL to the Rugby Premiership on this.

Saracens - with half the England team on board got a 35 point deduction for breaching a wage cap in previous years and are now likely to be auto relegated this year for not complying again in the current season.

Would a wage cap actually be a better thing in the championship? Then clubs spending on youth, stadium sales, training ground costs all go into irrelevance?

Would it be correct to assume that the EFL have decided that the "purchase" of the club's grounds (Wednesday & Derby) infringes FFP regulations?

If that is the case, this could run for years as it could be taken to court to test the law. Rather like we did.

Had loads of them in my face before the play off final saying how pants we were and how they were going to give us a hiding for being "cheats"

Now they've been done themselves, you absolutely love to see it.

It's over the valuation of the ground, Derby valued it as £80m in the accounts but the EFL have had a look and valued it at £50m.

It was I believe an official Club engagement where presumably the club supplied the alcohol.

The story in Derby is that there was a development or youth team player in the car and the club tried to keep it quiet.

Derby on 10:48 - Jan 17 with 1659 viewsfrancisbowles

Birmingham's punishment was originally 12 points. It was reduced by 3 because they admitted the offence. So 12 should be the benchmark for a team that fights the charge.

Derby's 'defence' is the same as Sheffield Wednesday's: the EFL are acting unlawfully and had previously agreed to the ground sale figures etc in writing.

Surely the EFL aren't THAT incompetent?? Not on Shaun Harvey's watch and absolutely not linked with him leaving recently I'm sure.....
