| Thoughts on Manning in CM? on 20:42 - Jun 20 by DavieQPR | I believe that match was played in the context that the Management wanted to put any chance of the play offs out of the question. I mean what would happen if that team got promoted? It would cost a fortune to get that team up to any sort of standard. The inevitable relegation would play havoc with the finances. I believe the club has set its sites on being a mid table selling team for many a season to come. |
I'm sorry, but I don't quite get that. Surely us being promoted under our present sound financial management structure would mean that we'd bank a huge portion of the TV money and budget for worst-case and come out in a strong financial position either way. It's the Burnley model that Hoos devised, no?

Agreed, I am sure we would get it right this time, probably come straight back down but have the parachute payments to build again sensibly. That wasnt deliberate today we were just well below Barnsley in terms of sharpness with a number of players underperforming Re Manning his performance was back to the first part of the season where for me he was consistently poor and consistently targeted by opposition as a weakness. He got considerably better in the couple of months before the season was suspended, i think he deserves his chance particularly as we may need Wallace as emergency centre back but i also think he is overrated by some supporters and would sell him for half decent money

Not really my memory I thought Manning held onto his place with gusto. A place that was seriously under threat. [Post edited 20 Jun 2020 23:01]

I think Warburton should have picked them today because even though they wouldn't show up, they couldn't have been any worse than the two centre-halves who played. Invisible defenders may well be the way forward! We have four already!

On the other hand you could go up, not spend much and almost certainly come down again but a lot richer and with parachute payments. Just realised others have made the same point. [Post edited 21 Jun 2020 3:56]

I think any owner would sack a manager who deliberately set out to not try and get to the playoffs. No of course we are nowhere near ready to go up but if you fluke it and in some fairytale day out at Wembley you win promotion why would you not want to be handed the Premier League millions? It’s what you then do with the money that counts. Surely Amit and Hoos between them would be able to manage board expectations and buy sensibly so in the likely event we came back down again no harm done if we managed contracts and wages carefully. It won’t happen but no manager deserves to be in a job if they play to avoid finishing as high as they can.

? As others have said why would a club in financial difficulties turn down an opportunity to land somewhere in the region of £100,000,000?

we deliberately lost in case we won the next 9 and sneaked into the play-offs and then won them and got promoted? It's a theory. Think people are being a bit harsh on the team today. One team in the entire division won at home, and it was the first game back after 3 months. It was poor, undoubtedly, but don't think it was quite as bad as some make out. I also do not think that Manning 'wants out' (LBlock as ever an absolute master of knowing what everyone else is thinking based on his own prejudices) and I also do not think we'll see any substantial bids for him.

I agree on Manning , we just looked a team short on game time. Our shape in the 2nd half looked a lot better, thought the re-introduction of Shopido was good, there is a great player in there and he is starting to gain confidence again after a difficult couple of years. Never thought we were in with a chance of the play offs, mid table team at best. Thought Masterson got to grips with the game in 2nd half and he is a good prospect. Main concern is right and left back positions. Need to find alternatives to Kane, Rangel's age is against him. At left back, Manning is OK but better at wing back, Wallace same situation as Rangel, best days behind him, but can still do a job.

Where were Hamalainen and Kakay? I thought they were back with us and being two subs short, I thought they would have been on the bench. Maybe injured? [Post edited 21 Jun 2020 15:31]

| Thoughts on Manning in CM? on 18:24 - Jun 21 with 1628 views | BazzaInTheLoft | I think he is one of those versatile players who fits in anywhere. A sort of Gareth Barry type. Don’t think we need to pin him down anywhere. I prefer him in midfield because he has the mobility, energy, and a decent pass which I don’t think Cameron or Ball have. Amos might have it, but to be honest I forget he plays for us sometimes. I always think about that through ball to Mackie at Reading a couple of seasons ago.

That's a very good shout in Hamalainen's case as he has come back 'during the season' but Kakay came back from Partick after 11 games in January. Maybe he is still in the development squad and has been furloughed.

| Thoughts on Manning in CM? on 20:45 - Jul 19 with 1190 views | QPROslo | Manning must be our Jekill and Hyde. Some neat clever passes yesterday, a goal from distance the Keeper should have saved, but asleep too often defensively, and his passing early on especially deserved being subbed for after about 20 minutes if we'd had a LB on the Bench, it was absolute cr*p. | | | |

I think he is a decent player with a very good left foot but playing left back exposes he weaknesses. He is good running with the ball when in space, good at crosses and long passing. Not so good at turning and tracking when the ball goes over his head, winning aerial challenges, or when facing towards his own goal. He also struggles to beat an opponent and gets forced inside a lot due to this and being very one footed. He is a better player when played either wide left, inside left or left of a two in defensive midfield.
| Thoughts on Manning in CM? on 10:35 - Jul 20 with 1079 views | bosh67 | I personally think he is a playmaker in the centre of midfield. He can get stuck into a tackle like Faurlin used to do and he can spray the ball around with that left foot too. So if and it is a big if he stays I think he could step into that role well. He has an eye for a through ball. | |

| Thoughts on Manning in CM? on 10:37 - Jul 20 with 1072 views | daveB | He's looked far better at left back then in midfield imo, he needs to improve the defensive side of his game but he offers so much crossing from out wide, we'd miss that if he moved into the middle | | | |
| Thoughts on Manning in CM? on 10:41 - Jul 20 with 1071 views | BAWHoops | I think he is a wide left midfielder as opposed to a left back. I'd love us to keep him and work out how to play 343 with Barbet and a left sided DM covering the left channel allowing him to operate up and down the left flank. Would need a right nasty bastard in the centre of defence for it to work though.... I'm hoping next season's team is something like ...............Kelly/Lumley/Dieng........... .....Masterson...New CB...Barbet...... Kane......Ball.....Left CDM......Manning New Winger.....Hugill/New ST.....Chair Chair to drift inside with a bit of free role to add some creativity to the centre of the park | |
