Female only or predominantly female bands and artists that marched to their own tune and DGAF.

The grass is always greener.

I've always been a huge fan of Elastica. They do have a male drummer but are a female band. Lots of attitude and anthem songs. I often thought they were better than Blur.

good band.

Speaking of Hole and Courtney Love, we can never read enough this quote from her:

“All it was was a couple of shags at the Sunset Marquis and I did not know he was Alan Partridge.

I had never seen Alan Partridge. But I was in a band with people who did know about Alan Partridge, so I had to make a record with them constantly saying to me: ‘Back of the net!’”

"The opposite of love, after all, is not hate, but indifference."

Any song by Coldplay would count too.

Everything by Kate Bush, ever, natch.

But you already knew that, so how about this woman:

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

I discovered this band on FB and bought their music up to that point.

The band leader sent me a PM saying thank you and sent me an EP only released in the Ukraine. How nice is that! The singer has an amazing voice.

Veruca salt also deserve another vid. The first two albums were brilliant.

Two of my favourite singers.

I really enjoyed the second one Esox.

From Glasgow. The bass player is also a lady

Thanks Metallica. I discovered Dar Williams around the same time as I discovered Ani DiFranco, Aimee Mann, Fiona Apple, Indigo Girls, Verucca Salt and The Breeders. She is very talented and writes some beautifully observed lyrics.

Both of these from last year. Both ended up on my 2020 playlist

And with the former singer who is now their manager.

I've seen Angela live at the Camden Underword with Arch Enemy.

She was incredible.

I'd co-sign the Siouxsie, Savages, Sleater-Kinney, and First Aid Kit sentiment. And I love "Brackish" by Kittie.

Some I'd add...

Cat Power

Chelsea Wolfe

Merrill Garbus of Tune-Yards (I'm not going to bother stylizing it)

Zola Jesus

...and did I not see Bjork yet???? (some videos say unavailable). She's had bigger hits but I love this song

Joyce McKinney Experience were one of the best bands around at the time - such a shame the album, like a lot from that scene, suffered from such bad production.

Anyway,
