I said it the other week, Charlie is reminding me more and more of Kevin Gallen in his second spell at Rangers. The way he drops back to get the ball and then spreads it out to the flank to set up an attack. Saw another example of of it today.

I was worried Charlie was not up to match fitness as striker and even more worried when we have him back as a playmaker but his craft ,experience and most importantly desire is shining through .What a difference he has made not only on the field but to everyone who bleeds blue and white long may he run

I thought turning the Field and De Wijs loans into permanent was a given. Austin and Johansen more problematic.
Austin's wages are our problem, however much he seems to be enjoying his football here. Half the Championship can/will pay more.
Johansen is a great Championship player but Fulham don't think he's good enough for PL. If Fulham get relegated and want him back, that's what will happen.

Keeping Field and De Wijs, plus the return of Amos, Carroll and Masterson gives a very promising, young squad. As much as a new LB would be an improvement, the main thing holding us back will be the lack of goals. We need at least 1 of Dykes, Bonne, Kelman to become a 15 goal striker. If that all happened, I'd fancy our chances of a top 6 finish.

Would love to see Austin stay longer. He’s been great and definitely isn’t finished as a quality striker. Pace was never his game so if he’s lost a yard so what

If WBA don’t take up the option and on the terms he’s said to be on they may well not, there will be countless clubs queuing for his signature

Wells is ‘on’ circa £27k at Bristol City if you believe reports and if you believe reports our top earner is less than half of that

There would be many Championship clubs prepared to hand significantly bigger money than we will and as much as we love Charlie and I truly believe he loves us, money talks.

Would also love Johansen but same applies

I’ve heard on good authority that one of our defenders is on £15k per week so our top earners must be on more.

Austin has been fantastic, his all round game is so good. He has done so much better than i expected, any championship side who wants to go up next season should be trying to sign him and I hope we are at the front of that queue.

He spoken on his podcast about wanting to be a manager when he retires, make him player/coach and his wages don't go towards FFP

My concern is he does what Wells did ie plays really well for us and a team with deeper pockets than QPR offer WBA loads more than we can afford??? It will be real shame if he doesn’t stay and play at a few packed Home games.

CA has done so well since he returned, turned us into a much better side. Did not think he played that well yesterday but it isn't just playing well it is the fact that he is on the park for other players matters just as much. He must be very important in the changing room and at training. Best signing of the season.

I think that is likely or maybe West Brom keep him in the championship

Delighted we've got him for the rest of the season as for next season who knows?

Contract is up at the end of June according to Transfermarkt, so it seems unlikely WBA will be able to sell him.

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

A lot will depend on what percentage of Charlie and the Vikings wages we are paying .Charlie might reach a compromise as he seems really happy here and can toddle off to do a few earners on the side ( eg Talk Radio) The Viking has 1 year left on his contract and might be peed of with Fulham continually messing him about. He might think it is better at his age to get an average but longer contract now than a poor one in another years time.

They have a one year option; whether that requires both parties to agree to it, I dunno.

Face it, this all depends whether Charlie "loves" us enough to lose out on a fair few £ks per week. I am not sure that he does...

Can we go out yet?

The option will be the club's and he's not in their plans, so it's hard to see them taking it - why pay £70k pw for a player who isn't going to play?

Another club will doubtless offer him more than we can, but will he want to go there? He held out for Southampton, so he has form for not just following the money.

If anyone remembers the last window we were able to keep hold of Charlie and saw his tweet will tell you, he loves our club and he feels like Jordan Belfort when he was being told to step down.

I would love it if he posted it again come May. I understand that the man needs to pay bills and we need to keep the books in the black but surely we can have a marquee player?

Bollocks. I'd do it for £14k a week and a Nando's reward card.

I think we all need to temper expectations when it comes to Austin. He may or may not love Rangers but he's entitled to leave Rangers to further his career and/or maximise his earnings, he has done it once and may well do it again.

What did he hold out from? We rejected early bids from Leicester and Palace that summer then there was no further interest until his price dropped ahead of contract expiry.

Theoretically WBA could take up their option to extract a fee from someone but as it won't be us the risk in potential contracted outlay for a player who's kind of singed if not burned his bridges would be prohibitive.

I remember it being widely reported at the time Austin's first choice was Southampton.

He won't get offered an extension - too high a risk he bites their arm off, then refuses to move because he won't be offered even half what he's on, end result being he goes on loan heavily subsidised by WBA. There may be a lot of financial recklessness in football but I can't see that happening.

I agree....WBA will not offer CA an extension to his contract. He will therefore be available to move-he wont be playing in the Premiership so it will be a championship side I would suggest. The question is, if we want to sign him then what can we pay him. He is not going to demand a high wage so we will be in there with a shout.....it just depends on things like what signing on fee(s) and contracts (1, 2 , 3years??) are available.

Personally, I believe that he wants to stay here but money will come into play so we are going to need to get near any other offers that may become available.

anyone in mind for left wing back?

Issue with Wingbacks is they are a relatively (ish) new position and there aren't that many out and out specialists. You can use a winger or a fullback there. Ng who went to Cardiff from Crewe would have been ideal - Although believe he is a RWB. Like the look of Ruffels from Oxford for LB (LWB) option. 27 so should be in his prime.

WBA have a unilateral option for a further year on the current contract. But yes reckless either way.

Now you mention it it does a ring a bell that lack of interest in him may well have been down to his camp discouraging bids from clubs too far away from his creature comforts. A little strange to portray the Southampton move as proof of virtue given how extremely well paid he was there though.

The only way I can see us keeping Austin is if we sell it to him that it will essentially become his club.

He would be club captain
He would always be the highest paid player
He can do some coaching badges
He takes pens, free kicks, corners, organizes the Christmas do etc etc

Tell him he can have what Deeney has at Watford, free run of the place.

He can do all that whilst building 'brand Austin'. You'd also need to offer him a 3 year deal at aged 32.

It's really really risky, and you've seen what happens at Watford if Deeney isn't happy (just like at Chelsea when Terry wasn't).

To keep Austin here we either have to break the wage structure or the culture that the club is trying to build

There's a very good Irish wing-back not getting much game time for his current club. Probably get even less if they are promoted. His name just won't come to me...
