I am concerned about his recent form - ie the last three games. Well actually, more concerned about his loss in confidence than his loss in form. Anybody can lose form, hit that period when nothing you do comes off and even the simplest of passes go astray. It happened to me many times over the years - admittedly from a pretty low bar anyway - and all you can do is grit your teeth, train harder and play through it. But,starting with the Stoke game (so it hasn't been post - Covid outbreak as some have suggested ) Willock has suddenly not only become anonymous but also unwilling to accept possession, or try to make things happen as only he can. Clive said in his BC report that Willock was 'starved' of the ball, once he was asked to fill in as an auxiliary LWB, when Wallace was removed. I actually don't agree with this; there were several occasions when the ball was passed to him ( usually by Barbet) and all he did was pass it straight back to him again as if he couldn't get rid of it fast enough, often putting Barbet (or whoever) under pressure, forcing them to turn around and use Dieng. It is so completely different than the Willock who was weaving his way through the Derby defence with the ball stuck to his foot, only days (in Stoke's case) earlier. I have also seen it said that he is only a shadow of the player we know without Chair. Two comments on this; firstly Chair played in the Stoke game and half the Bournemouth game, when Willock was completely ineffective and secondly, if is true then we are in deep trouble with Chair off to the African Cup. He has had such a fantastic 2021 and he is so vital to our promotion aspirations, that I am very concerned as I said, not so much the loss of form - that is only temporary - but this sudden (apparent) loss of confidence. Let's hope he has a blinder against Brum to prove me totally wrong.
Agreed, Sanderson (one of their better players) reduced to bear hugs and going through the back of him. Can be frustrating and have thought this in several games he's been "out of form" but refs should be booking after the 3rd or 4th cynical foul.
Yes you're correct, forgot that in my summing up on match thread - yes Sanderson should have been cautioned for multiple fouls I thought.
Today Willock was superb (not a knock at the OP). never mind him scoring a cracking goal.
Absolutely Ted. Unfortunately didn't get to see the game today due to family commitments, but having seen both goals , it is clear Willock was back to his pre-Stoke form again and certainly his goal showed no sign of a lack of confidence. Reminded me of BOS's (was it at the same end?) two years ago. If anything, his performance accentuates how out of tune he has been for the past three. Like I said in my opening post (is that what OP stands for?) his blip in form didn't bother me too much, but his desire to get rid of the ball as soon as it came to him was more concerning. Today, even from the brief clips I have seen, he wanted to get on the ball and that is vital to our promotion aspirations This new position behind the front two (even though neither seemed to have brilliant games) seemed to suit him well too as he was able to go left or right, whereas before when he was on the left, he was inevitably going to cut inside, making him more predictable. and consequently easier to subdue. Hugely significant too that he was so influential without Chair, having Wallace return to form definitely helped - the first goal echoed many of our great moments in 2021 - long may it continue
Willock has not been at the races recently, he has set himself high standards and we all come to expect that every week - It isn't going to happen, not just yet anyways.
Today, once again, I thought he was very average until he scored, but the goal he scored was 'proper ' decent and class strike, doubt if anyone else on the field could have scored that goal.

He was fouled 4 times today and those were just the ones the ref gave a free kick for. Bournemouth came with a game plan for him in both fixtures - stick to him and foul him early - and it worked.
I don't want to see card-happy refs or games broken up by bookings but when it's as persistent and obvious as some teams have made it, bookings have to be given.
Eze used to get the same (both targeted and called anonymous when it worked).

Willock was also instrumental in our first goal and Birmingham couldn’t really live with him in the first half.
I for one will be hoping for many more ‘very average’ performances from him in a QPR shirt!
I thought that he had a very good first half. He found space very well considering Brum were playing with three centre-backs, wing-backs and three in centre-midfield.
After half-time he faded somewhat purely because we couldn't get the ball to him enough. When we did he wrapped up the game for us.

Is there anyone else you're concerned about Myke? I could use the help with my predictions.
I like your thinking here.
I am deeply concerned that - Dykes hasn't scored in ages - Dickie hasn't scored a thunderbastard for a couple of months - Seny hasn't kept a clean sheet for a couple of weeks
I'm struggling with my pickled onion addiction, I've been to pickled onion anonymous twice but that hasn't helped, used to be just sweet pickled onions but now I'm 'popping' any pickled onions going.
My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

You're okay, Ted. Just keep off the hard stuff - pickled walnuts.

Must admit I was similarly concerned after recent games, Bristol City more so, as expected Bournemouth to do a number on Willock again.
Concern was Willock's dip in form coinciding with Chair being away in January, a bad month could really derail our hopes of a top 6 finish.
Delighted with Willock yesterday, maybe a freer role, but was the match-winner we know he is and won us 3 big points, hopefully dip in form is now over and Dykes, Field and Wallace can get match fitness up in next two weeks for a big January.

I would suggest that Wallace was instrumental in the first goal....he played the ball in his own half, Willock took it forward under no pressure, Wallace continued his run from deep and received the pass from Willock and passed a sublime ball to Albert who stuck it away very nicely, thanks very much 1=0.
Like it or not Willock has not been playing too well in recent games.......Norf has given him a MOM score and I may have done the same for his goal that was very good despite pretty poor defending.

I thought it was Field who played the ball to Willock who ran at the Birmingham defence and played in Wallace with a perfectly weighted pass before Wallace put in a decent enough cross but we were a bit lucky with the deflection to Adomah.
Agree that Willock wasn’t at his best vs Bournemouth and Bristol but he was a real handful vs Birmingham from the start.

Not in 'my book'.....better than against B'mouth and Bristol but nowhere near his early season form where he was excellent.
He is our biggest asset in my view but needs to keep up playing.

Yes, it was Field, good to see our defensive minded midfielders playing incisive forward passes rather than safe passes back to the CB's, important to be able to launch quick counter-attacks when we win back possession in this area.

Yes, definitely Field. And a great example of a spotting first-time through ball before it ever comes to you.

Wallace worked really hard to catch up with Willock and provide the over lap
Ya, he did.
The only slight quibble (I may have made that word up) I had with Clive's excellent match report was that I would have had Wallace on a 7, not a 6. I thought he was dangerous and energetic again, though admittedly that's through the prism of my laptop and Clive did say something about the body not being willing on occasions.

Yes, just checked it, wallace to field to willockthen back to wallace on overlap
Basically, I thought we were poor, against an abysmal opponent, and so I basically had a lot of ours on 5-6 with Willock up to a 7 because of the goals, Adomah maybe likewise, and Dunne because I thought he was great. But then I liked Dickie carrying the ball out again, I liked Barbet, I thought Field was decent, so I started to nudge them up towards 7, but then you have to give Willock and Dunne an 8, which I didn't think either of them were, and nor was the performance deserving of an 8. Then I looked at the west london sport ratings and it was all 7s or 8s, which usually I'd associate with the sort of away performance like Hull or Boro, and this was a million miles away.

So in the end I fcked it up I think.
I don't think you did.
I only had a slight quibble (I really am going to check if I've made that one up) on one of them.
You had it down as 6.5 performance overall. That's probably about right.
