I know this is going to sound stupid but having Rice and Philiphs as the starting mids is killing England IMO.
Both are way too negative and did I mention Philiphs is a very dirty player but Southgate loves them and will never switch..
I watch Rice playing for West Ham and he is maurading up and down the field even scoring but for England its sideways and backwards .
Grealish is in a bad spot with City and England , neither manager trust him to keep his cool and they are ignoring his ability to win games .He is deadly in combination with Kane and with Foden attacking and harassing like a terrier England have more than enough to make a deep run.

There’s the rub.
Unfortunately Rhino will point to this camp ,and especially the Hungary game, and insist the cautious approach is the right way.
I cannot watch an England team now with Mount and Phillips starting; it’s madness when you have Grealish, Foden and Sterling on the bench plus a far superior water carrier in Declan Rice.
Steve Holland is culpable - his trade learnt under Mr Boring Football himself in Jose Moaniho.
Our current defence options are ropey so why not actually go at teams?
In terms of the Management Best since Sir Alf Ramsey donchyaknow…..
Two of the luckiest and kindest runs of fixtures EVER in back to back tournaments and he’s poo’d the bed both times when it matters. They’ve done okay and took us from a very low bar but I just don’t see they’ll take us any further.
In terms of the squad and availability … doesn’t really help the Management as I believe our defensive and keeper options are poor or out of form. Up front it’s Kane or nothing and to be honest he’s doing his best stuff dropping deep these days. Midfield is where we have riches but that’s the big blind spot with Phillips and Mount shoe ins whereas most England fans outside of those twos club’s wouldn’t even have them in the squad!!!
Get Wenger lined up for January as I don’t see us doing anything in this World Cup - group runners up maybe but then out next game.
Write your own excuses about tired players, heat exhaustion, injuries etc as that’s what’s coming [Post edited 15 Jun 2022 5:19]

I think Southgate has fallen into the same "favourites" issue as McLaren/Capello etc and players are now undroppable despite phoning in performances. This whole summer would have been better to give everyone a rest and play some fringe/younger players and tell them it was their chance to make a World Cup. |  |

I completely get Mount. A fantastic midfielder who presses well, knits play together and scores the odd goal. I’ve got no issue with him playing.
As for the Southgate being defensive chat, yeah, he is. You can’t just play Foden Grealish Mount etc all at the same time. It doesn’t work.
England have reached 2x semi finals and a final with a core of Pickford, Maguire, Walker, Stones, Rice, Henderson, Kane, Sterling.
To start deviating from that is madness.
For me the thing Southgate needs to work out is how to get Foden into the middle more and help control the game.
