Why not though?

Why is it okay for Dickie to get a yellow card for criticising a ref recently (he certainly didn't scream in his face), which doesn't affect anyone but the ref, and yet the blatant time wasting that happened from the 26th minute kills the game as a spectacle is fine? How does that benefit the authorities?

If they clamped down on it they'd only be a couple of sendings off and players would stop being so blatant about it. I can understand it happening in the last ten minutes and I wouldn't blame teams for that, and maybe they could suck up the odd booking. But for 70 minutes, FFS.

I actually think it ends up with the ref just looking like a dick and no-one respecting his authority at all, which is what happened with Gavin Ward.

While Dickie got a yellow card for complaining about a brum player not getting a 2nd yellow,Deeney was allowed to barge into the ref after disputing the penalty decision and got nothing.Where is the consistency?

I agree, I can’t ever remember anyone being sent off for time wasting. Plenty of yellows dished out for kicking the ball away/taking your shirt off

In what world is taking your shirt off worse that time wasting for an hour

Not in the league, but I seem to remember a Northern Ireland player being sent off for taking too long over a throw in.

The consistency is there if you look in the right place. The non booking of players mainly goalkeepers for time wasting until it is into added time, the referees taking the easy option and not making the big decisions Birmingham away second yellow, the adding on of farcial amounts of time at the end of each half which in no way make up for the actual time wasted, the non punishment of players either kicking the ball away after being penalised to standing in front of the player wanting to take a quick free kick etc etc. Basically without proper sanctions the players and coaches will take the pee. Cowardice by the football authorities and referees is killing the attraction for a lot of people of the " beautiful game "

Agree with all that. At one point you actually had a Huddersfield player run forward about five yards, directly in front of Seny to stop him distributing the ball. This seems to be another bit of cheating that is becoming more commonplace.

I find it amazing that refs give yellow cards for time wasting, pull up play for minor fouls but fail to deal with the Greco Roman wrestling that is taking place from corner kicks. To me any form of shirt pulling, neck wrestling by the defending team should be an automatic penalty. It is ridiculous the amount of body wrestling antics that is taking place, also need linesman to be more proactive in calling this out.

Indirect free kick for unsportsmanlike behaviour and a yellow card.

See above - USB covers loads of things - fouls, breaking up promising attack, DOGSO in the penalty area etc etc etc - the list is long - when reporting the yellow - if its USB they have to input the reason why as a code.

Matters little as they can't appeal yellow cards.

Absolutely spot on. Think some more rule changes are needed. Also take the time- keeping out of the refs hands, so they can concentrate on what is happening on the pitch.

I seem to recall there was a half-hearted/short-lived attempt by the EFL/FA to clamp down on all the corner ball shithousery, which is the real pits of all this piss-taking degradation of the game, but then things just went straight back to where they were before.

The fundamental problem, as I've repeatedly argued, is that the game is not for fans, and the authorities/players, mostly, don't give a short shit about the 'spectacle' (or the sport). Until we can find a way of getting into refs' faces or boycotting this bullshit, nothing will change. The game needs to be reclaimed for us - though I fear it's far too late.

The equivocal//sidesliding of everyone from (some) fans to club commentators re timewasting/cheating/running the clock ('game management' is one of the most pernicious euphemisms in the modern game) - if QPR are doing it at Sheffield United, it's OK for some people, apparently - adds further layers of repellent. Watch games from the 70s and 80s, and you see very little of it, so it also has to do with the rebranding of the game to diminish its value - a bit like Cadbury's shortening their chocolate bars. Those green/woke fans who buy in toit, or lack a historical perspective on the game's decline, are a naively misguided part of the problem.

But then I'm a misguided/delusional romantic, apparently. (Whose side are you on?)

And a kind-hearted, generous and engaging fellow like you to put me in my place for, er, the heinous crime of contributing a bit of polemic and argumentation. What's a football message board for you again if not that - to project your own patronising/smart-arsed attitude onto others?

He gave the keeper 3 final warnings last night and only booked him after he'd kicked it and wasted even more time

More to the point, he issued 20 hand waving "warnings". Totally lost control of the game as he always does, How Town ended with 11 men on the pitch was incredible.

On top of everything, I go to watch FOOTBALL, not some smart ass average 'keeper blatently taking the pss out of all of us fans AND the referee.

I thought refs were the ones in "control". Dogshite, the lot of 'em - looking forward to a nice calm rational watch of a game rather than watching the referee on Saturday...

Can we go out yet?

Seny should kick the ball straight against him next time.

Just like Roberts should have taken that throw against Brum's Hair Bear Bunch, which would have HAD to be an instant (2nd) yellow for them.

...but yet again, our "right sorts" would never do anything like that, would they???

I agree with you on this one.

As I've said before with the clubs funding the PGMOL to the the tune of millions of punds, if they wanted to stop the timewasting and other things mentioned, they would.

Its the reason dissent and OFFINABIS is allowed and the 6 second law ignored.

Club bias is also spot on, its not just Nick of course, all clubs are the same.

Its all "lets have a laugh as Field the Shield gets another yellow card, but its "How many more?" when an oppo player commits his 2nd foul!

You can't send someone off for 'timewasting' per se.

Could issue 2 yellows of course.

Leeds player got sent off for getting his 2nd yellow for blocking a quick free kick this season (1st was for a foul).

Agree with you in principle but it would be a bit risky, as if it rebounds off him and a goal results you are relying on Gavin Ward to make the right call.

"Those green/woke fans who buy in toit"

This has got nothing whatsoever to do with how matches are refereed but congratulations for squeezing in a snide little dig.

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

I get what you mean, I am biased, of course

But it’s got to such a huge scale now - I didn’t realise the clubs funded things of had any say in it

I’d rather there was 2/3 red cards a game for 3 weeks and the ball stayed in play for 80 out of 90 mins

Lest see if KS hands out, not one, not two, but THREE yellows for delaying the restart - all after 90', all after a dozen or more warnings - complete nonsense.

Its so easy - about the 30th minute you say to the keeper "You're taking too long with the goal kicks, i know what you're doing, carry on and its an early yellow"

Waving your arms , having a chat and then doing nothing about it is a nonsense.

I get, but don't agree with, the PGMOL/clubs edict about NEVER penalising the 6 seconds - that's not Ward's fault - but the time spent taking GKs, throws and other restarts started after they scored their 2nd.

Not their fault, we would and have done the same, BUT , he's the referee, he has to the tools to deal with it and he just didn't.

The odd call you're always going to disagree with, otherwise he was OK, but his game management was awful.

When was the last time anyone actually saw the 6 seconds rule enforced? I genuinely can't remember an incident in the last decade plus. If there is an edict not to enforce then what's the point of the rule.

You have a point, they don't, same as clubs don't want the 6 second rule enforced - its become obsolete.

Yes of course every side 'delays the restart of play', of course you're not going to give out yellows every time someone 'stands' on a free kick, but last night.....come on show some knowledge of the game, you know they are bottom, you know whats happening and you just can't think to yourself after 30', right I'm going to let the keeper at al do that for over an hour.

Is there any reason why a ref couldn't book the same player twice for time wasting. He could have carded Nicholls in 1st half. If he carried on, a 2nd booking, i.e. a red, could be justified surely.

No doubt ref would have been sanctioned by his FA.
