Players talking with hands over their mouths? 21:54 - Nov 13 with 5115 viewsconnell10

Just watched the England match and as the players come off at the end they were all chatting amongst themselves with their hands over their mouth. What the f uck is that all about? Totally weird!!!

AND WHEN I DREAM , I DREAM ABOUT YOU AND WHEN I SCREAM I SCREAM ABOUT YOU!!!!!

So lipreaders can't work out what they are saying to each other. Sadly, "journalism" these days involves using lip readers to conjure up a story.

If the opposition worked out what fantastic tacticos QPR players were discussing, it would not do them any good, because we dont do tactics !!!

I do agree it looks daft but a few weeks back two Chelsea players walked off talking to each other without the hand covering their mouths and Sky were showing it every hour with subtitles turning that into a story so I can see why players want to avoid having their private conversation after a game shown to the world

100% mate.

I've noticed this as well, Covering their mouths like Joe Pesci in 'Casino' under survelliance from the FBI as they contemplate taking a freekick for 20 minutes before blasting it beyond the kuiper belt over the loft.

'Mecca Archer!.. There'll be no more talk of Mecca in this establishment!'

Pretty obvious really that its to prevent lip reading. The media are all over anything that might be seen as controversial, trying to monetise it, and absolutely everything is captured these days.

Jim Bouton's cracking book on 1969 baseball references it.

This is not new.

Yes, just more prevalent now with cameras everywhere and social media waiting to pounce

It’s mystifying.

In over 60 years of watching the game the only memorable thing I’ve ever heard a footballer say was when Peter Crouch was asked what he’d be if he wasn’t a footballer.

The media. Bit of controversy gleaned from lip-reading and you would be surprised who would read it. Not sure why it’s an issue, just ignore it.

In the NFL they have one or two players mic’d up each game. Surprised Sky haven’t tried to force this onto the Prem.

Understand it, but it looks ridiculous! I've even seen kids doing it in a Saturday morning JPL game :-)

Given the lengths the Murdoch OCG went to in pursuit of obtaining personal info on public figures, quite understandable.

I’ve seen kids put one or two arms up in the air before taking corners, coach has admitted means nothing but they have seen it on the TV!

just part of the modern day primma donna act.

rolling over a 100 times when someone nudges them....they even find it hard to find a part of the body to rub...
going down holding their faces when these new balloon like footballs hit them...
wearing gloves in the summer...
shithousery...
unlimited subs....
water breaks...
mud....
and of course the hand over the mouth...

me/we are just old, things change with time, most youngsters don't know any different...

i bet when floodlights came out people moaned...

Poll: how many games this season....home/away.

It says a lot about today’s footballers that not one of them has thought of taking the piss by doing an after match televised interview with his hand permanently over his mouth whilst every word is heard on the mic.

Shame the Fast Show isn’t still around.
