Sam McCallum was a loanee who'd cost Norwich £3.5m that we never could have afforded for a left back. He played significantly well enough to be voted young player of the year at QPR, despite his hamstring blowing out midway through the loan, before being sold to Sheffield United for far more than we could afford. He wasn't a failure. He was out of QPR's range.
Damien Delaney played the majority of his career as a centre back, including at Palace - QPR's poor recruitment forced him to play LB. |

If the general consensus is he’s the best LB here since Clint Hill, who left 10 yrs / 500 games ago, is it not the case of better the devil you know? And thats what he is on the pitch, a nasty little devil who does the job without drama. We need those.
A proper nuisance. Gets tight, wins duels and a willing decoy runner. Goals and assists can come from our baller boys, let them 'cook'. We won the league with Hill at Lb, ok different times.
Limitations, yes. But as a club we’re moving from survival mode to steady, and he fits that phase perfectly. No guarantees he continues like this if made permanent, and of course wage dependent, but I’d be very surprised if they weren’t seriously looking at a package to keep him. |  | | |

He has a year left by all accounts, but yes. He can kick his heels for a year or take the best offer he can get, be secure for three years and play some football. Only players on six figure a week contracts choose the former.
We've already been around this block twice just in the last year with Hayden and then Edwards, both of whose wages were supposedly so humungous we'd never be able to sign them. Sure, it's different when you're talking about a young, rising PL talent on loan (eg Kyle Walker) but no mid table Champ club is signing those players. |  |

Another 'tidy' game at PNE, I fail to see, finances permitting, why posters do not want him here as a QPR player.
Regarding the transfer fees & wages......Sheff Utd do not want him and he is 'costing' them to do, basically, nothing so I do not think they would want transfer money for him (they would be 'happy' to get him off their books), if we can come up with a 3 year contract with a signing on fee then I am sure we could sign him. |  | | |

Lee Wallace was solid and also, as was Angel Rangel.
But our best full back in recent times must have been Nico Hamaleinen closely followed by Ossie Kakay, as they were both consistently rewarded with multi year contracts !!!!!! |

Its a no from me, for what its worth.
I think posters are right and RND is a steady Eddy, where when he plays you know what you are going to get.
However, he didn't play too many games in the three game week, although is very regular now.
I think 7/10 performances are his ceiling, not his average.
No one knows, but I'd imagine he is on the last knockings of a PL contract, so that probably puts him at the top of our pay scale.

In the last three windows the clubs recruitment has been largely good. I think I'd prefer to see if we can find two young LB's on £5-10k a week than pay one RND £15-20k a week
I'm sceptical of the Matthew Rose syndrome, where players who want a contract start looking like Pele
Anyway, what do I know, I reckon for a full back a bit factor is who is in front of you and if its SWP or similar then god help you! |  | | |

According to capology (I know I know) he's on £25k a week.
Same website has our highest paid players as Saito on £20k a week and Cook on £30k.
Take all of that with a massive pinch of salt, but I just don't think you want your decent but jobbing left back to be one of your highest earners.
He's done well this season, but isn't able to play every game.
Next season we need to get Esquardinha out on loan and see if Larkeche is OK as a back up in pre season (I worry he isn't). After that we need to be sensible in the market and see what we can find.

I think the intention (certainly for next season) is that "the two young LB's on £5-£10k" are Larkeche and Esquerdinha. RND would be preferable in many ways but surely management only got him here this season because of Larkeche's injury. | | | |
