As a long term Rangers fan, i really really should know better...
However, i think we can have a real chance next season.
In most areas of the pitch, we seem to have several decent players and injuries permitting and with eighth place being a play off berth - why not !!
Is it the sunshine, is this a delusionary vision or am i simply failing to only see the positives...
Its been half decent this season, but why not QPR
Lets actually.go for it and see where we.can get to.

I'm with you!
Of course it depends who goes this summer, however our master plan with injuries means we are likely to hold on to some of our best players like Chair, Madsen and Burrell.
My feeling is we should be in or around the playoffs next year (especially as it's now top 8) and a really good run for the playoffs year after. I'm assuming this is our 3 and 4 year plan - if we don't meet this I think I'd say we've not progressed as we wanted (or the board expects) - pure speculation on internal expectations, no inside info. I don't think we can expect promotion, but we should definitely expect to be competing for it.
A lot probably depends on who comes down, but it definitely feels like we should have a chance, especially if we can keep everyone more available than we we have this year.

It's far, far too early to start talking about next season. Sure, we have the basis of a decent, young team, many of whom are having their first season at Championship level. One hopes they can improve on that.
In fact, I'd say dont start speculating until the transfer window closes. To the side that started the season at home to Preston, we added RND, Saito, Hayden and Kone before September.
Any predictions at this stage could easily be blown off course by our activities in the Summer transfer market. Also by what other clubs do. I suspect we'll see more outgoings than incomings as we ditch fringe players. Can we sell a player for big money and invest in someone cheaper and as good? That has to be the model.
Assuming, Wolves and Burnley come down alongside 1 of West Ham Spurs, or Forest, they are starting with a huge financial advantage. I doubt if Wrexham and Birmingham are going to rest on their laurels with such wealthy and ambitious owners. I also think Norwi h and Sheffield United will be better. As always, the Championship will be highly competitive and there wont be an easy ride from a Wednesday type club. |  |

I think we have more depth now and our first XI is decent but we still have some way to go to make the next step, largely in terms of consistency and controlling games. I'd say we need one more quality player in each department to get into the top eight. Hopefully we can off-load one or two of our players that don't add much and unearth one or two nuggets. | | | |

Hopefully, depending on sales, we already have a better and more settled squad to start the season than in recent years. If we get reasonable fixtures in August that will help us get off to a positive start.
Carabao cup 1st round this coming season will be on the weekend before the league season starts. There should be no reason not to play our strongest side and try and build confidence. | | | |

I don’t think anyone is particularly sellable - and especially at a valuation that is hard to turn down - so I’m personally expecting everyone to stay.
The big two Madsen and Burrell would have surely attracted interest, and commanded / negotiated a fee that would have worked for all parties, but injuries have likely scuppered that.
The likes of Morgan and Kolli will be attracting interest, but with both under longer term deals, and nowhere near their development ceiling and maximum valuations, the club would be mad to sell at this point.
So for me, I’m expecting an as you were situation. Field will probably be sold, and possibly Saito if they have any sense (especially with both Sutton and Scarlett left wingers coming through), and that would make up the budget. | | | |

A couple of points I'd make mate, first that was a pretty young team out there yesterday, and it was a game played at pre season pace for the large part by both teams.
What we miss, and have missed for a little while, are a couple of Ray Wilkins or Shaun Derry types in midfield, with a bit of steel and nastiness about them, capable of driving everyone around them.
Saw a clip recently of England playing Jack Charlton's Ireland team. Ball constantly belted into the England area, compete for first and second ball ferociously, and close down any England player with the ball and smash them. Win the ball back, belt it into the area. Rinse and repeat constantly.
Not pretty but very very effective. It's mentally exhausting for the opposition to deal with time after time. While I'm not advocating 90 minutes of that every game, I think we don't win the right to impose ourselves on the opposition often enough, particularly at home. We did it against Watford for 75-80 minutes and I reckon it was close to our most compete performance of the season. |  | | |

It wasn't meant as a defence, more as a highlight that with a young team, there isn't anyone out there to drive them on and make sure they understand that we need to force the issue.
However, in defence, I can remember a very much more experienced team back in the 70s with the likes of Francis, Bowles, et al drawing a home game against a very inferior Birmingham because the game was played exactly as I 'd described. It happens when there is nothing on it for either team, so I'm not going to be too hard on a much less experienced team yesterday. | | | |

Mbengue is not a first choice right back if the club have ambitions of top 6 next season. Good defender but technical ability and footballing quality is seriously lacking. Struggles on the ball and is a weak link.
