I do agree that Morgan did show for the ball and tried to move it forward at times. But he dithered on many occasions either losing when in possession or not getting stuck in for a challenge. I mean he was also alongside Hayden who struggled to go above a jog all game but the midfield was so open all game. |
Agree, though I think there's so much potential there and he's able to hit 7/10s already at Championship level compared to many of the 20 year-olds we have. Three years younger than Adamson, for example. Lots to work with still: get another 50 games in him, some at L1 level, and he'll be worth a decent fee.
But like the rest of squad, he'd really work better in a three man midfield, a 433 or some variation. If they address the full backs, that definitely seems to my eyes the way forward next season with the squad they've assembled. They must think that too: will come to a pinch point with JS. |  | | |

It’s purely about statistics now.
Get CN’s ‘youngsters’ in where we can however detrimental to the result and how we play .
That’s the plan JS seems to have been given .
As I said in previous threads on the same issue, giving them minutes is good, in the correct circumstances. But by playing Adamson from the start, in a team clearly on the beach and not fully engaged, could be very damaging .
I thought he started nervous, looked way out of his depth then won a tackle on halfway and seemed to grow 6 inches.
But then, as the game went on he just played safe . Ball, always back to where it came from. That’s not entirely his fault because our movement ahead of him was and has been for ages , non existent.
No one showed or really did anything to receive the ball .
But along with others out there , I think he hid a bit .
It will be Esquerdinha’s turn on Saturday as RND won’t do 3 games in a week.
We all know he isn’t at this level yet .
But they’ll do it anyway .

In my experience, the thing which makes many organisations tick is the measure on which people's bonuses depend. I've worked with a sales manager who ignored an easy £200k sale because the product was not one which would count towards his annual performance related bonus.
I'd love to ask Nourry, and JS, what drives their bonuses, in the presence of a lie detector. Promotion? League position? Staying up? Or is it just minutes played by our young players?

The other issue with throwing in young players is that our more experienced performers are average Championship types at best. It's not as if we have a group of top class performers who are good enough to carry a few youngsters.

For the record, that means Murphy, Kolli, Morgan, and Esquerdinha to me.
Appreciate we've done this dance for over ten years now and to ask for patience is a liberty, but I think we need patience (and a new CEO / Ben Williams guy).
Not saying they have done it well, or not in their own interests, but the course we are following isn't just the right thing to do, it's a necessary thing to do.

Agree. But we have a team filled with very young players, certainly more young talented players playing at once than I can recall:
These are all excellent Championship players already and all aged 23 or younger:
Edwards, Kone, Vale, plus Morrison who just turned 23 and is having exactly the kind of development loan playing for Aberdeen that young players should have. Because he's good enough for it. Not many else at Rangers are.
Agree about Kolli and Morgan. Disagree about Esquerdinha, but I reckon we'll get to see more anyway. Not seen enough of Cooper, though personally think the team needs an older keeper - but could be wrong, of course.
What I'm saying is there are already lots of good very young players in the first team squad. Bennie has a chance too. I think that is plenty. We can't just give games to others who aren't at the level because that's not development, that's dogma.
Not every young player will turn into a princess. Mostly at QPR they remain frogs. But we need some 25 to 28 year olds who've miles in the tank and fought to get where they are too otherwise the thing will not hold: Burrell is a good example, Smyth too. I think we need to be signing a few in that age group this summer in the problematic positions. The development model will survive it.

You can't just fill the team with young players simply because you want to be a 'development' club. The Busby Babes were an outlier; a team needs a balance, which our overlords don't seem to understand. Joe Walsh is the best example - we made him our number one this season simply because of Nourry's dogma. It's genuinely crazy that things like that are happening - we can't just be chucking young players in for the sake of it. | | | |

Its all about opinions I guess, I have no idea why Morgan is copping it, yes he gave the ball away but at least he offered for it probably had more touches than anyone else other than Ronnie and was looking to create whilst playing in Midfield on his own as Hayden could not be bothered.
As to Adamson, gobsmacked anyone thought he had a decent game. Made a couple of tackles yes, positionally all over the place, passed either backwards to who gave him the ball or played Vale into trouble on the halfway line or lost it. Barely got forward, dont remember a cross. Mistake led to the penalty. The team were choosing not to pass to him at times and take on a more difficult pass. It made the right side dysfunctional. Feel for the lad but miles out of his depth |

I know mate, it was more about the attitude expressed elsewhere of a supporter stating that he / she pays their money so deserves to see the best players available all the time.
