That was a pretty embarrassing performance, only Ronnie, Kolli, Morgan, Smyth, can probably hold their heads up.
Keeley Adamson so out of his depth he makes Santos look like a professional footballer. Whoever is responsible for that signing should be fired. Completely affected the functioning of the team. Hayden as the senior player with "premiership" experience playing in his flip flops and speedos set the tone, leaving poor Morgan to try and play midfield on his own
Burrell looked a yard short of his pre injury pace.
Poku before his hamstring blew up again was utterly woeful.
Vale seemed to be carrying Haydens beach bag for him.
Chair seemingly playing up front ran around but took about 20 minutes to actually get a touch of the ball.
And then we have one of the worst pen decisions I've ever seen, 2 or 3 feet outside the box Smiths entire body outside the box. A stupid tackle but one we have seen from senior pros as well, following some amateur play from Adamson. (gotta feel for the kid) And then because we are pissed off we actually start to play. and dont get me started on 4 mins injury time... took that long just for the pen.

Also disagree on Adamson. Despite a shaky start, he grew into the game and did not look out of place given it was his debut. More comfortable on the ball than Mbengue on that showing, which is not difficult, but welcome. But regardless, right back needs strengthing, along with left back. And centre mid. Same as it is every season. We just aren’t good enough on the all in these positions, certainly if we want to execute the hame model that is. |  | | |

Does it not speak volumes that when the ref gave that ridiculous penalty, there was barely a squeak of protest from our players? Some bemusement from Tylon Smith but that was about it. Where were the players crowding the ref? Where were the leadership, smarts and game play? Just a lot of instant resignation. A culture of battling, self-belief and assertive communication needs to be built for next season, and that needs to come from the top. |

On the commentary Terry Gibson made a great point about how nice Joe Walsh is, they were having shot after shot with no one closing players down to putting a block in but he said nothing to them, he needed to be handing out a few rollockings and screaming for players to get closer to them but he said nothing |  | | |

This is a spot‑on observation and it really lays bare the whole team’s rookie mentality and lack of leadership. If you watch any semi-experienced Championship side, they would go absolutely berserk if a decision like that was given against them. They would surround the referee, happily take a yellow card or two, and make it crystal clear that a massive mistake had been made.
But what did our inexperienced, flat‑looking players do? Absolutely nothing. Instant resignation. No fight, no edge, no warrior instinct, no winning mentality. And that inevitably points back to coaching leadership into the players. Culture doesn’t emerge by accident – it has to be driven from the top.
Cook sadly played his last game today and when he arrived alongside Jack Colback, they embodied exactly what we’re missing now: experienced pros with bite, temperament and standards. Brannagan at Oxford has been mentioned recently here on LFW and he’s a great example of the kind of seasoned midfield presence we desperately need. There’s nothing wrong with assembling young, talented players, but without at least one loud, aggressive, ball‑playing, box‑to‑box midfielder next season, this squad will continue to look soft and easy to bully when it matters most. |  | | |

I'm not a fan of using the word unacceptable because how do you not accept it? But that really was unacceptable. Yet another performance in which we looked a division below the opposition and it's happened far too many times this season. Hands up anyone who didn't think we were going to struggle with that midfield?
Can't deal with the press, can't move it forward swiftly, can't pass, can't tackle, can't shoot straight. Persist with the same moves in the face of repeated failure. Did we retain possession even once from all the balls lofted at Burrell on the touchline? Did he win one header?
Surprised Adamson's getting so much good press. He wasn't bad exactly but what did he do? I thought he and Smith were terrified of doing anything but a safe short pass. On terrific goal aside Morgan hasn't progressed at all this season and looks set for League 1. Smyth tried but was wearing someone else's boots again and Vale was way off it once more.

Awful tonight: a real kick in the teeth for those of us who fought to get there to support them.
Absolutely nobody with any creativity in that starting line up: why not start with at least one of Chair or Madsen FFS?
Thought Vale and Kolli were dreadful but Morgan in particular was awful throughout.
Adamson had a good game though, and Smyth tried hard as usual.
And finally why take Cook off so early and bunch it with three other subs? The guy deserved his own moment.

Thought Swansea were decent, deserved the win regardless of the penalty. Our management team and players need to start taking things more seriously and stop mugging us off. This is complete folly, the basics, like intensity, proper closing down, marking, accurate passing and shooting and well rehearsed, properly executed set pieces do not change, no matter what. |  |

I agree. I thought he played like I would in a team three or four levels above my own ceiling: please do not notice me.
Every ball back to the player behind, no tackles, never showed in space. Constantly underlapping into the middle where other midfielders were, never offering on the overlap and leaving Vale high and dry on his own. He was scared. He hid. Not his fault really as he was so out of his depth but that was a nothing game against a nothing winger. Imagine a real game.
It was his full debut but he's over a year older than Mbengue and looked like the junior by five years. Just not currently anywhere near Championship level. I love a lot of the young players, but we have to distinguish between youth who can hit the level now and those detrimentally promoted. He was terrified. Reminds me a bit of Holloway's first season in Div 2, 2002, when he had such a thin squad he'd have to play youth players patently out of their depth. We don't have to. We have just really neglected full backs, CMs and, yes, goalies. But particularly full backs. We need some desperately. [Post edited 22 Apr 8:54]

It’s purely about statistics now.
Get CN’s ‘youngsters’ in where we can however detrimental to the result and how we play .
That’s the plan JS seems to have been given .
As I said in previous threads on the same issue, giving them minutes is good, in the correct circumstances. But by playing Adamson from the start, in a team clearly on the beach and not fully engaged, could be very damaging .
I thought he started nervous, looked way out of his depth then won a tackle on halfway and seemed to grow 6 inches.
But then, as the game went on he just played safe . Ball, always back to where it came from. That’s not entirely his fault because our movement ahead of him was and has been for ages , non existent.
No one showed or really did anything to receive the ball .
But along with others out there , I think he hid a bit .
It will be Esquerdinha’s turn on Saturday as RND won’t do 3 games in a week.
We all know he isn’t at this level yet .
But they’ll do it anyway .

What a shockingly poor match. A game you could let go and play with some freedom and all our boys were wondering was where they’d put the sunblock and their £200 flip flops.
Ref? You guys said it all.
On the young lads, I understand they’re not up to standard but this is a game we would all say that they need to be given an opportunity in. End-of-season and nothing to worry about. Chuck a couple in and let them see their level.
Turns out they got a real taste of being chased, harried and made to look third best. Hopefully they’ve learnt a lot. Hopefully they will look closely at their performance and pick up on their shortfalls. Maybe they will accept they need to go out on loan for some real competitive games week-in, week-out. I hope so.
As for some others (professionals!) - don’t look in the mirror this morning. Shame is a pathetic face staring back at you lads!! |  | | |

JS says he has played with other formations in France so needs to show much more tactical flexibility next season. Continually outnumbered in central midfield, the 4 4 2 tactics have been worked out & exploited by other teams.

My biggest worry for next season is that our performances are night and day without Madsen in the side, and he also looks like our most sellable asset at a time when we really need to be getting player sales over the line to make the model work. One more year with the core of this team plus a better GK/full backs and a real midfield partner for Madsen and we could be going places, but I don't think we'll get it. | | | |

Very odd signing considering his age and the fact that he was not close to being in first-team contention. We released Aaron Drewe at the same age and Adamson is no better.

Made a couple of tackles yes, positionally all over the place, passed either backwards to who gave him the ball or played Vale into trouble on the halfway line or lost it. Barely got forward, dont remember a cross. Mistake led to the penalty. The team were choosing not to pass to him at times and take on a more difficult pass. It made the right side dysfunctional. Yeah, 23, playing for the Dev squad and exactly the player Nourry said wouldn't be at QPR going forwards when he took over.
Hitting the point this summer that LF and co hit a little later in their reign when soccerball philosophy comes up hard against pragmatic football league reality. Bet Nourry and Williams lean harder into the philosophy, but hope they don't. We need some of Hunter's hairy balls boys in key positions.
One thing I did like last night was the passing and movement between Madsen, Chair and Vale towards the end. There's promise there with an energetic, strong DM behind them and dynamic full backs. | | | |
