No one was more critical than me last season of Madsen. So much so I got pulled up by a few on here. But that’s gone.
Go back a couple of seasons before to when Jimmy and Dickie were playing centre back together and having , what Clive called ‘a public mental breakdown’. Jimmy was truly terrible for long periods and was dropped before MC moved him to right back . Are we to hold that against Jimmy? Or do we show Tylon Smith the door immediately for diving in and giving 2 penalties away in 35 minutes of football ? It doesn’t matter if he comes into the side in August and wins player of the season because you know , those penalties .
He was really struggling and very poor. But now he isn’t . He might have a few poor games but is that that then ? Madsens ‘returned to normal’ , or is he just having a poor spell as all footballers generally do ?
I think all of us , me included for sure, are quick to pigeonhole players as good or bad when really there are 100 reasons why different players might not perform at certain times .

Build a team around him and with players like Burrell, Kone, Kolli, Morgan, Edwards, Dunne and Vale there is the making of a very good Championship side.

Some - Colback was a beaut for this - would actively hide behind an oppo player so as not to be an option, only to emerge a second later with the pointy finger out again.

Colback was a good player, disagree entirely re hiding......whenever he played he was 'on - it' - he wanted the ball Very good footballer and one of our better players. He had issues but none of what you write about!!!! Once again, missed by many.

I brought up both seasons only because it was suggested that he was management material and I think we'd have to see more of the improved Madsen before deciding that.
He rightly got credit and praise for the last few games of last season, and is POTY this season, but the whole body of work is relevant.
