She said the only place to get a drink is in these workman shop/shacks where they drink a form of hooch brewed on the premises.

The article I initially linked to says that nearly half the bottles of whisky sold worldwide are in India.
But as you rightly say it does have a huge population.
According to this India ranks 9th in the world for per capita whisky consumption just behind Ireland and the UK:

The key word is traditional. Yes, alcohol is a thing in India now but it's really a 21st century development that's come with the advent of a growing middle class who can afford it - alcohol is very expensive in India.

Always feel quite sad walking past seeing it boarded up.
I was in that pub when we found out we had no points deduction before the Leeds game. The place went wild with everyone spilling out the pub onto the Uxbridge Road celebrating. A moment in time I will never forget. | | | |

There's a pub in Fulham my mate used to go in ( no, not Rupert ), called the Rylette Arms. Flat roof but 3 real ales. It's now the Elephant & Barrow. I went in one lunchtime. It's now an Indian pub/ restaurant. I was the only one there. The 3 handpumps were still there but just for decoration really.

Should start a topic on appalling service, there is a pub in Uxbridge called The Millers Tap and for some reason they serve cocktails, the service is mind numbingly slow, anyway i popped in there a few years back about noonish and the only other person in there was the barmaid and i thought (madly as it would transpire) i'd get served immediately and just as i got the words "morning, can i have a pint of ........" she picked up a mop & bucket and went outside. | |

The Adelaide was good for smoking outside and having a beer... But the best bit was having a Doner Kebab wrapped in Naan Bread from the takeaway on the opposite corner.

New pub refurb open near me in Hanwell.
More an anecdote about younger bar staff in their first jobs, but I ordered a round with 4 different drinks, each one was left in a separate bit of the bar for the "head to go down", they took my money then just went into the back.
Very nonplussed.
Had to gently remind the young lad that I'd quite like to get the drinks.

I was adamant that this was why it struggled.
Loads of people wanting them to take their money.
No one to give it to.
Actually just remembered the last time I went one of the people serving had a broken arm, and of course they served me. Six pints served very slowly.

I was in there that day as well.
The news broke over by the corner of the bar where the food pass used to be and made it's way round the bar like a load of dominoes tumbling fast.
I had something in my eye for a while and then slumped on the leather sofas near the fireplace / khazi's as the enormity washed over me and the stress of that couple of weeks left me.
Probably the best day ever following the club. | |
