My guess is that this was all done and dusted last week once Stockport lost to Bolton. You get the impression that the Ogdens arent going to stand in the way of Jim moving up the leagues. They might even have encouraged it.

Hopefully Lillis, Taylor and Done are staying in some form as they've obviously made a positive contribution since arriving. Maybe more than we think. If they were all to leave, I dont see any ready made manager there within the club. People will cry Hendo, but hes not coached let alone managed, and whos to say that he wants that. Would we go after Garrard at Boreham Wood? Or look at our bigger neighbours and there youth coaches, hopefully not another Eyre. Or woud we all want a solid league 2 manager, in a Robinson or someone of that nature?
Personally, id would try to Garrard but hes never played or lived outside of London so would he do it?
On Jim leaving. Im personally torn, he got us promoted and i will be forever grateful for that but my god, we didnt half bottle it a few times under his stewardship and the football at times was turgid, but he got us promoted and only 2 other people have done, so if he does stays fairplay to him but i think it could be a blessing for both parties. I think Robinson would be a good shout, based on the fact he knows L2 well and getting to the play off final shows he can deliver in this league.
Having that said I’ve no idea if his style of play would suit us and is in any way comparable to Jim’s?
But thats the sort of calibre I’d want for us - not giving a chance to someone who hasn’t done the job before - yes it obviously worked in the past (for Hill and McNulty) but in those scenarios we almost had nothing to lose by giving them a go.
At other times when we have had something to lose (Eyre, BBM) it’s not worked out so well. For me it isn’t the right time to promote someone untested or bring someone up from the NL. We need someone who knows the league well and has shown they can do the business. If not Robinson himself then someone with that sort of pedigree. |  | | |

Jim will be going nowhere. The board will offer him everything he wants to remain part of the project. The season ahead is phase two and Jim is committed. Stockport feel that Challinor had hit the ceiling following promotions through the Divisions from National League upwards. Why would they want to take another manager in the same mold as Challinor, they will be looking higher. As far as Salford are concerned too much interference and involvement from their benefactors would surely be off putting to someone like JM who has been left to manage the football side of the Club with minimal interference and support from the Ogdens when he has needed it. | | | |

We need to hit the ground running, we need somebody who is used to recruiting in EFL2 and can attract the right players. Trusting Taylor and Done with what is likely to be a improved playing budget when they have zero experience in management sounds like madness to me and the cheap option. It's what's best for the club, not individuals and just because you've assisted the manager or coached that doesn't qualify you to manage the club. As a club we should be a bit more professional that just giving somebody a chance when it comes to such a important role as managing the team. [Post edited 3 Jun 12:32]

Jim’s under contract so Stockport would have to pay compensation if the board dig their heels in.
I understand that Wellens was ruled out of contention due to the amount Orient could demand in compensation.
And this may be harsh but I’m not sure that Gordon, good as he is, isn’t really top end of L1 quality. | | | |

They played four at the back later on in the season and ended up having to play Wootton at centre half for the run-in due to injuries. They have played with wing backs, including when Corey O’Keeffe being there on loan (and not very good it seems).
Suppose the links would have been because McNulty’s managerial record is so good, his win percentage probably being better than anyone else in the frame. The talk in various places linked him from early on, their forum clearly has people who look to have some knowledge of stories coming out of their club. Then there’s people like O’Rourke on twitter, who whilst being an irritant, often tries to make sure he knows that others know he has some insight. | |

Going off a survey by Radio Bolton (I’m not quite sure of the sample size or who was asked) Stockport fans don’t seem overkeen on Jim as manager, apparently preferring the thought of Karl Robinson, Alex Revell or Richie Wellens instead.
As has been said many times before on here it only takes a dozen sizeable bets to distort odds quoted by bookies.
Jim doesn’t get a mention apparently by the bookies for the Salford job where the favourites are Mark Hughes and surprise, surprise a certain Phil Neville. | | | |
