Just got in and haven’t had time to scrutinise every post, but is it an ‘anti-American’ tenor or more of a general pile-on against the hateful current regime? There’s plenty to admire about America (cinema, music etc - I know you don’t need reminding of that, Colin) but unfortunately the very, very worst of it holds the upper hand at the moment.

As for Johnson, I still haven’t been able to put down my sick-bag after witnessing his contribution to the Brexit programme last night. Used to see his battered old banger around Camberwell when he was ‘visiting’ Carrie and p*ssing off the neighbours with their noise. Dozens of parking tickets strewn over the back seats. Too much of faff to pay no doubt.

I'm so torn with 'the beautiful game' these last few years. Love our club and pay close attention to the Championship but that's where it ends sadly.

I just can't muster up any enthusiasm for International Football anymore and this WC is the final nail in the coffin for the various reasons pointed out above. Just back from a lads golf trip in Portugal and the others were all of the same opinion. Maybe its a 'bloke in their 50's' issue and have just grown tired of all the noise.

I think it might well be an age thing alright, Silverfox. At least partially.

Apparently they arranged diplomatic papers for him anticipating problems but still no joy .

Yes, that's right - my niece is back in Blighty ( tiddl-iddly-ity), but she said nearly all of her friends and colleagues over there were horrified re Trump.
I suppose it depends on one's age but I grew up in post way Britain and the yanks were great allies and friends.
Plus the entertainment industry was dominated by the US.

I don't know where they were based but there were often yankee servicemen in Jack's cafe at the top of Westway, playing pinball and swapping stories.

Have not read through all the pages but noticed 1 poster did mention anti-American sentiment on here which going off most US mentions appears to be accurate.
Leaving Trump and his policies aside America is a beautiful country to visit and the majority of its population just regular hard working family oriented people.
How many LFW posters are coming over either to the US to support England, Scotland or just enjoy the ocasion or is the cost, FIFA bulls*it and current regeme turning everybody off .

On the regular hard working Americans thing, they have voted Trump in twice, three times now as most brainwashed supporters say also now and he still has a lot of support.

Appreciate your words re Americans and met someone recently whose daughter is very unwell and they cant afford her treatment and want to move here. But many support the orange man still.

Anyhow, beyond that, crikey what if somehow States did very well in this tournament. Doesnt bear thinking about.

Tell that to Trump who still refuses to accept he lost a fair vote. The problem is once voted in by democracy tyrants can use it to their own ends unless there are sufficient checks and balances. They can for example pardon terrible people, make sure they are immune to prosecution and even refuse to stand down when the time comes. Sounds like Trump. Criticising bad elected leaders and the people who voted for them is surely the essence of a free society.

It's neither free or democratic.

1) The Electoral College can override the popular vote, meaning the candidate with the most votes doesn’t always win.

2) Voter suppression means certain groups can't vote.

3) The Senate gives equal power to states regardless of population, skewing representation.

It's an even shitter version of FPTP.
