Northern Ireland was a cracking place to be back in the 70s and 80s . I should know I travelled and played football there back in the day .

Those various issues you mention were certainly there Paddy, no doubt about it, and some aspects of it have stuck with me into later life. Like anywhere though most people did find a way to lead a normal life in between it all - it genuinely wasn't all bad. I'm happy and proud to come from Belfast.
But, and I accept this isn't completely rational but I'll say it anyway: at least when we were killing and maiming each other in the 70s, 80s, 90s, it was our fcuked-in-the-head problem that we needed to resolve. (With notable exceptions of bombings in England etc granted, not diminishing those at all).
But to see immigrant families having to dive into the back of police vans in fear of their lives is a new kind of sickening and beyond embarrassing, and you can hear some of the outrage in the clips - from normal people, reasonable politicians, all sorts. Some of this outright racism on the extreme has been getting worse - it's a fcuking scourge. |  | | |

For what it's worth I already decided a few months back that I won't be watching this World Cup. I didn't watch a single game of the Qatar tournament either and actually didn't care.
This whole situation just confirms my decision.
Yes America and a lot of Americans are decent people but their current government and 'leader' are a total joke.
Trump said Somalia is barely a country and they run around killing each other. Has he looked at his own back yard and the number of mass shootings and death by guns?
