| Refwatch - Rochdale v Gillingham on 17:01 - Sep 5 by EllDale | Up there with the debacles against Harrogate and Boston in recent years in terms of capitulation. |
Made a bang average Gillingham side look like Real Madrid in the second half. No fight, stupid decisions by individual players, and most of all, hopeless management from the dugout. To leave Mani on so long should be enough to get IW sacked on its own. Bring Henderson on for 3 minutes? WTF? And still bring everyone back when they have a corner and we're 4-0 down??? Incredible. Sorry, but IW and co have undone all the green shoots from Tuesday and actually regressed us to possibly the worst 45 minutes I can recall for a very long time. Another weekend of depression looms. Big call now for the Board after backing him so well. Surely he will be gone before the forum, or it will have to be cancelled for the good of everyone.
| Refwatch - Rochdale v Gillingham on 17:21 - Sep 5 with 3409 views | isitme | One step forward and three back. First goal - good strike but Mani did not do enough to hold it up on the half way line and there could have been more pressure on the ball before he shot. Second goal - headed it against his own player and it dropped for them. Third goal - though there was a push on Tasker and did not actually see how it went in. I believe is was a header. Fourth goal - he walked through 5/6 players to score. That was embarrassing. My main issue with Watson is his substutions. We have decent options on the bench to bring on fresh legs, take off players on booking or in Mani's case replace someone who it was just not working for. Did anyone have a clear view of the sending off challenge? I thought it was a collision and the decision could have gone either way in terms of who the free kick was awarded to. It did seem a bit harsh. | | | |
| Refwatch - Rochdale v Gillingham on 17:25 - Sep 5 with 3342 views | DaleFan7 | The keeper is awful, lobbed from 20+ yards for the first goal, wasnt anywhere near the top corner. Has no command of his area, never comes to claim a catch just flaps at everything. Need to give Waller a chance. Mani D is proving why he hasnt done it at this level. He's easily bullied off the ball, doesn't win duels against defenders, is out maneuvered against defenders, too lazy to put more than the minimal effort in. He was more enthusiastic shaking people's hands at FT than at any point during the game. Less said about the manager the better, if he's still here in 3-4 week we will be a great bet to go down. | | | |
| Refwatch - Rochdale v Gillingham on 17:33 - Sep 5 with 3258 views | beat_the_bishop | Everyone could see Mani was being outfoxed by Beckles. So why just let it continue to happen? Swap him out play brown or Hendo there and give the defender something else to think about? Ainsworth took his left back off at half time who was on a yellow. And the substitutions in general are actually just unbelievable. He shown a lack of fight today, and for that alone he deserves to go. They are his players, his tactics. Whoever comes in still has a ridiculously hard job on their hands. We have really messed up here after so much joy the heart has been ripped out in as little as 5 games and a preseason. The board gambled and the crooks of it is, I can see how they have been sucked in he says the right things and likeable chap. But, dropping back down is an absolute disaster and it’s likely to happen if we continue to back him. | | | |

The lack of a plan the minute we concede is becoming the main issue that is quite obviously on Watson. We’ve seen absolutely nothing to indicate he knows what to do in that situation.

| Refwatch - Rochdale v Gillingham on 17:48 - Sep 5 with 3085 views | JimmyRustler | With a good 6 tough games in a row coming up (bearing in mind we have had a dream start on paper), we are running the risk of being cut adrift at the bottom. I think a loss at Walsall and failure to win against Oldham at home sees him sacked. And tbh if that is the case it won’t be before time. I don’t think the players are particularly bad (save Wilson and Ramming) but they are certainly being mismanaged and I am almost certain a competent league manager could do a much better job. We cannot afford to go straight back down. It’s likely that tough decisions will need to be make in the next few weeks. Let’s hope the board do the right thing if it comes to it | | | |

I was on the fence but you’ve summed it up. He doesn’t know what to do or seem to show willing. Watching Ainsworth today just absolutely outclass him tactically just shown there’s levels to management just as there is players and leagues. Not that many of us needed telling that but maybe the board did? Absolutely clear he’s obviously a good coach. But management is about bravery and he has none.

Their manager took the player on a yellow off at half time. Game management is non-existent with Watson I have no clue what he is watching. Ramming is petrified of the ball and attackers and looks to be daydreaming half the game. Mani has morphed into Rodney and looks uninterested in any battling or running. We're in trouble. Including the friendlies and league cup games, we've seen one occasion against a very poor team for Watson to hang his hat on. The other games have been clueless, disorganised rubbish. They are on Watson. Today especially. You can tell when something isn't going right at Dale. A lot of fans have had that feeling for weeks. Have the board noticed? They need to and act fast. All the good work that was done getting us back into the EFL can't be thrown away on a manager who isn't up to the job. [Post edited 5 Sep 18:00]

| Refwatch - Rochdale v Gillingham on 18:19 - Sep 5 with 2658 views | James1980 | Questions to fans were you happy with the appointment of Watson in the first place? Should he at least be allowed to have a few games with the majority of his squad to choose from? To the board how shocked were you at Jim leaving? Was anyone else approached before Watson? If so what is the reason they turned us down? How many other candidates were there? | |

What’s more worrying is two were completely avoidable if the manager had the (limited) nous needed to take both players off. That really is basic stuff

On the first couple: yes, I think the appointment made sense and fit what we wanted to achieve as a club. Second question: he’s had time to show what he wants. I can see that. He does appear unable to react to any sort of adversity. It’s no longer about playing philosophy. It’s about a culture. We had a winning culture even in adversity, now we have one where people look unsure at best the minute we concede.

It’s like Robbie Stockdale has come ack to manage us - north east lad, talks a good game, nice fella but absolutely clueless when it comes to tactics and game management. Wtf has happened with MKRT or whatever they’re called? Are they still involved?

I think today showed the difference a quality keeper makes. Gillingham’s Wright was excellent. As well as pulling off a few great saves he commanded his area in a way Ramming could only dream of. The first half in particular we didn’t deserve to be losing, and I even felt up until 3-0 we could’ve got something from the game. Ramming just can’t command his area at all, and one of the goals (either 2nd or 3rd) he should’ve claimed well before it got to him. I wonder if the defence have a lack of faith in the man behind them. Swap the keepers today and that result would be very different.
| Refwatch - Rochdale v Gillingham on 18:47 - Sep 5 with 2312 views | EllDale | The keeper’s deficiencies are compounded by the fact that there is no bullying type centrehalf to defend setpieces. Wilson today showed that he can’t play three games in a week. And Tasker was absolutely goosed after 50 minutes. Tobi should have been on then. A massive wake-up call today. Out thought, outmanoeuvred, out muscled. It’s the lack of reaction from the dugout that worries me most. | | | |
| Refwatch - Rochdale v Gillingham on 18:57 - Sep 5 with 2205 views | Duckegg | The owners and the joint chairs must have talked about the situation a few weeks ago after the two opening matches about the current situation. Today was the call to the owners to look at a possible management change and who should be on that list and a priority. Would a manager like Stuart Maynard want to come to Dale and work with the current squad! Stuart Maynard should be a priority should Watson and co get the chop.. Also i hope that the owners would be prudent enough to put a clause in his contract aswell should Watsonn Co go | | | |

I don’t think Wilson can even play one game in 90 minutes. He looks all at sea and fills me with dread when he has the ball at his feet. Tasker’s performance was encouraging but he is quite clearly not match fit enough for 90 minutes at this level (for now). I don’t think a competent keeper gets beat in that manner for the first goal. Ramming is unfortunately not good enough for this level. Moss is a good defender but can’t do it all on his own. On the flip side, there is certainly a player in Taylor. I think we lost the midfield battle today. I can’t confidently say that Francis is better or brings more the pitch than Gilmour. Due to Francis’ limitations , Adeeko was overrun and couldn’t put his stamp on the game. Hannant put some good balls in the box which would have been lapped up by a mobile and hungry striker (more on him soon). Duberry is tricky and quick but we didn’t utilise him anywhere near enough with most of the play frustratingly coming down our right hand sight. Brown was quite decent and tried his nuts off but he didn’t have much help around him. Mani should have absolutely buried that header (although the keeper did make a good save). Aside from that, he really needs to be doing more. If he doesn’t score he looks like an absolute passenger, even more so at this level
| Refwatch - Rochdale v Gillingham on 19:03 - Sep 5 with 2115 views | Newbury_Dale | Moss, Sherring and Wilson is all we're left with currently in the central defensive positions. Maguire might be available for selection soon but its only a matter of time before he's on the treatment table again. Beckwith is a quality player but another one with a tendency to get injured. We are going to find ourselves cut adrift if we keep on this path, but that being said, if the board have any interest in keeping Watson then they need to allow him to bring in an experienced free agent central defender to replace EEL next week. Someone who can hold his own at this level and has a history of staying fit over the course of a season. I'm not confident that Watson will be able to find the right candidate, but its quite obvious Wilson is miles away from being ready for this level. Sherring simply not good enough. | | | |

At some point won't the board start to question it if Watson wants to bring in yet more players after already being generously backed? He bought in Sherring (who you've written off after a handful of games), what makes you think he'll get it right this time? Have you got any names for this hypothetical centre half who fits all your criteria?

Today has been a huge backwards step, Dieseruvwe, is hopeless at this level, he is meat and drink for any half-decent centre half, everyone assumes that given his height he should win headers, he doesn't win enough by a long way, and as a consequence Brown has no knock-downs to chase, and the wingers throwing high crosses into the box for him is essentially pointless... L2 is about pace, size and power Gillingham had it, we didnt. The substitutions were irrelevant, we don't have anyone capable of changing the game in 10 or 15 minutes. The squad is a mess...signing Maguire was a huge mistake given his injury, the injury list is a scandal. We have no leadership on the pitch , no strong L2 playing experience, and a manager with an unfathomable system. Ramming is being exposed by his makeshift defence, someone needs to tell him to start shouting at them and organising at the back.....he sees the whole game, the others don't and they need his help. We need Beckwith and a proper centre half back asap. And today we needed Gilmour in front of the defence as cover, not Francis... I thought Tasker did OK, Adeeko battled as did Moss, but a spear with no point is just a stick. We should have signed a proper centre forward, we have what, 4, 5, wingers? And no effective target for them to aim at. Tuesday seemed like a turning point, but today was a punch in the face. 3 points today would have put us in a more comfortable16th place. The big question for me now is, " will we ever get to see our best starting 11"? Followed by, "does the manager even know what that 11 might be"? I think there might be some difficult conversations over the next few days......

Who hasn't kicked a ball in earnest for about 18months to the best of my knowledge. Yes , a class act in his day but hardly likely to be match fit and the answer to our problem

Could be a good shout, but he's hardly got a spotless record on the injury front. What happens with EEL? Sherring? Maguire?
