| Awful team selection 18:46 - Sep 5 with 15965 views | mylot50years | That defeat is down to the team he put out 90% of the energy and pace was sitting on the bench it's ok to rest players but he needs to consider the opposition first today Wednesday's team would have won today hopefully hKe learns from this defeat also Kone should not even be considered to be on the bench until he gets himself fit at present he is a liability | | | | |

| Awful team selection on 21:49 - Sep 5 by SteveB | It is a mistake to change a winning team line-up when there is no need, It's Warnock 101 rules. You start that same side if all fit, try to exert dominance - get a goal in front, un-nerve the oppo, then rest the players that need it. Not hand them a win on a f**king plate... Piss poor selection today, for me. I left the ground absolutely raging. |
"When there is no need" other than a manager of a football club having to think about not getting his players injured when theres 40 odd games left to play after this one. I honestly wish it were a game of FIFA too where you could just field your best 11 3 times in a week.

| Awful team selection on 12:36 - Sep 7 with 1672 views | kensalriser | Why does everything always have to be someone's fault? Whatever you do in football, things are going to happen that you didn't or couldn't have planned for. It's already been said several times over that this game hinged on two very fine margins, the fortune for Brough that the ball from Smyth's tackle landed perfectly, and Vale's shot missing by probably two inches. If both had gone our way, we win 1-0. Would the starting selection then have been inspired? No. It would have been the same judgement with a different result. It's nonsense to suggest that a different line up would have won us the game because things that didn't happen are forever unknown. Maybe we'd have lost 0-3 if some people's preferred line up started. And actually, I'm baffled that people are so certain what the best starting 11 is. I have no idea - we're five games in with a significant number of new first team players. What I do know is that football is a squad game now. It's a very different game from a few decades ago. | |

Just how many did we make......add them up!!!!....and many of you think that is OK, well it is not for me and never will be, not the way we have been playing.

Am I reading that correctly? My bet to you is Will Lankshear has more chance of playing for England than Alfie Lloyd has of scoring 15 goals in a Championship throughout his career. Let's see if either hit that milestone. |
Well, Lloyd would have done better than Kone, for sure. Lankshear playing for England is absolute rubbish......he is playing a crap Championship level of football. Says it all if you think that he will play for England. Why would you think that . It will not be easy for Lloyd to score 15 times in the Championship but he is a good team player who lacks ability.

QPR made four (4) changes for Blackburn away and won that. Then QPR made five (5) changes for their game against Cardiff and won that. If I throw in a load of exclamation marks, do these facts carry more weight? I went to Blackburn and thought the changes were OK, yes thank you. Same with Cardiff. And I understand them against Boro, a considerably better funded squad who absolutely battered us earlier this year but didn't on Saturday. Ideally our midfield could have done with Gerry Francis but he's not fit for 90 minutes either.

B'burn & Boro are a different 'kettle of fish'!!!! Likewise with a very average Cardiff. One could well be pushing for promotion & the other looking up the league. Boro are decent, why would you put out the worst team you have selected this season, leaving many of the better players watching the first half? [Post edited 7 Sep 13:40]

Well, since you ask why I think Lankshear could play for England I will tell you. At the last World Cup, England took three number 9s: Harry Kane, who is 33, Ivan Toney, who is 30 and plays in Saudi, and Ollie Watkins, who is 31 this December and also plays in Saudi. Will they be the same three who are picked for the Euros in two years? Maybe. But over the next four years towards a World Cup when Kane will be 38? England will need to audition understudies. Who are the understudies? English football is undergoing a long drought of number 9s. Who are the others? Tammy Abraham is 29 this month. Liam Delap has more yellow cards than goals. The U21 number 9 is Man City's Divin Mubama who is currently on loan at - Gazza will not be happy about this crap level - Southampton. Then there's Will Lankshear who is graduating from England U20s to the 21s. If Lankshear continues scoring this number of goals, he'll be promoted to the PL either with Boro or as a signing. So at some point, he'll get a call up should his trajectory continue. That's my logic. What's yours? Who are the great English 9s in line for caps over the next four years? As an aside, at his age Harry Kane was on loan at Leicester, scoring twice at a crap level in 13 matches. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

| Awful team selection on 12:01 - Sep 7 by Malintabuk | This week is going to be very interesting... we play the 20.00 at Charlton on Wednesday and then up to WBA on the Saturday for the 12.30,..... there is not a lot of recuperation time there. For me the more winnable game here is the Charlton game so would JS target this for a win... on the hope of nicking a result on Saturday Of course the squad, players availability, fitness, tiredness all come into play. But I sometimes wonder if we miss a trick here. Boro closed the game down very very well, changed their formation and basically played the game out I often wonder with the technical ability we now have, perhaps go 5 at the back against WBA... 4 in midfield and just one up top... I guess that would depend on the Charlton result, but if we do manage a win... perhaps a more .... let's say vonservative game plan might just help us |
I think we will need to get used to Julien changing line ups regularly and I don't have a problem with his approach. It is still early in the season and we have a much more rounded squad now and if adapting line ups and tactics works, then so be it. Middlesbrough are a well tuned machine who have spent a decent amount of money, comparing how we played them in March and our performance on Saturday showed how far we are progressing. Let's face it we should be beating the Cardiff's,Portsmouth and Blackburn types of teams if we are going to really make a go of it in the division. I would suggest Charlton is in that bracket, West Brom difficult team especially at their place.

I look forward to your post on here when he plays for England.....in the 2030 world cup or the Euro's, proper competitions. Personally, I need to have seen him a lot more times than against QPR before making statements about his England career!!!! He scored on Saturday but didn't see him doing much more.

We're 3rd in the table, have lost one in 5 to the likely champions (1-0, 2 inches from 1-1), and now it's open season on the manager and Kone. Absolutely bonkers.

Alternatively you could also say we've dropped five points from nine at home (and won one out of four including the Millwall game), only one of our players has actually scored in those four games and we have lost to the first decent team we faced this season... I'm relatively pleased - the away form is excellent and we are playing better than last season but games like Saturday (and the way Burrell was rested then brought on) make the Kolli situation seem even more unfathomable. You have a player who has proved he can play at this level completely ignored by the manager, whether that's his decision or someone else's. Very strange.

Plus with all the matches coming we have to rest players, every side will and does. If Middlesbrough didn't against us I bet they do Wednesday. We are in 3rd, really should be 4 wins and a draw frankly, and look pretty good for this early in the season

I said he may play for England. Who said anything about scoring in "proper competitions"? Incidentally, at Lankshear's age Watkins was playing in L2 for Exeter and Toney in L1 for Scunthorpe, soon to be bought by L1's Peterborough. Any number 9 who gets loads of goals over the next year or so is in with shout of an England cap. Lankshear had a good run in a bad team last year and is having a good run in a very good team this. So I think he's in with a shout. He's not an all-round player: he's a finisher. (Having said all that, Dunne handled him very well. Goal aside. Which is what we used to say about Maddix and Lineker.)

The sentence that you took great exception to read: "the ball was crossed to where a £10m striker who will play for England nipped in between our CBs to slide home" The bit I got wrong that he didn't slide between them, he nipped in behind Dunne ahead of Mbengue. And no, not talking about two caps. Talking about a cap. You rubbished that very idea. But this must be a boring debate to follow, so let's just agree I may be right, you may be wrong and move on.

Same It sadly brings out the people who have been itching for something to go wrong or a loss so they can come out waving their pitchforks and criticise the smallest thing with no credit given to anyone about our current position - The criticism for Kone is unreal, and I have even read on this MB someone making statements that he is lying about his age, I mean that's truly bonkers but anyway. On a side note and a reality check for people on this thread who think Boro were miles better than us - In several championship teams of the weekend, I see Vitek was named as the best goalkeeper across the division. I guess he got that for sitting twiddling his thumbs
