Surely the absolute numbers are more than enough. Second highest wage bill in the league and a billion quid spent. Just almost entirely on absolute dross.

Klopp now saying he’ll play the kids in the replay as the PL has ordered a winter break that week. The history and tradition of the most famous competition in the world brought into disrepute by foreign coaches who don’t understand the importance this sort of game means to the lower league clubs. What would he have done in 1990 if he was managing us, we had 5 replays in the FA cup that season and only got as far as the 1/4 final.

favourite cheese mature Cheddar. FFS there is no such thing as the EPL
The decline of the FA Cup dates back to the foundation of the Premier League, as noted in a 2001 study:
'Szymanski attributes this startling decline of interest in the FA Cup to the relative imbalance of the competition. The most striking feature of the distribution of income in football over the last quarter of a century has been the growth of inequality between rather than within the divisions. This growth of inequality has reduced interest in inter-divisional matches while intra-divisional matches are more interesting in the context of the League.'
'In 1988, 92% of all FA Cup matches involving teams from the same division had higher attendance than at the equivalent League match. By 2000, the figure was only 30%.'

It's also quite striking that none of these managers ever criticise the champions or Europa league as contributing to the amount of games they play. No one ever recommends going back to the days of them being knockout competitions. The FA cup hasn't changed for decades, apart from getting rid of 2nd replays etc. The European competitions get more bloated all the time. It's shameful.

All started by a Scotsman at Manchester United who withdrew from the FA Cup in 1999-2000 to go and play in the Club World Cup.
And what about all the English managers putting out second teams including our very own Mark Warburton. I suppose it’s all the fault of those nasty foreign managers setting a bad precedent.

Yeah I don't think it's foreign managers as such, they're just another symptom of the influx of money to the premier League. Liverpool had players out there with 70 on their shirts, their squad is so big they need to find somewhere to play them. I attribute that to the money in the game, in the 70's & 80's squads were much smaller so if you drew a too team there's guaranteed big names going to play. Not anymore.

Good point. I would like to see the Europa League become the Europa Cup where all the games are two leg knock-out games with no groups. That would create a different dynamic and differentiate it from the Champions League and would also reduce the ridiculous number of games.
Never going to happen though...
"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

Nor do they complain about touring Asia/USA etc every summer.
They do complain about FA Cup - League Cup and International Football however.
Foreign managers did start it to some degree as for many years, and it still is the case to some degree the Cup comps are less of a thing of importance in other countries.
Worth pointing out though that another factor I believe in declining attendances is the overall costs associated with going to games - even if the tickets are cheaper for a specific game (like our 3rd and 4th round games) the overall costs throughout the season surely affect thinking especially for Sters who nowadays don't get it as part of an ST.
The laughable thing is the likes of Guardiola screaming as he does (when it suits him) doesn't seem to realise football doesn't begin finish and end with the top 10-20 or so clubs.

I heard a bloke on 606 last night saying that the answer to restoring the magic of the cup was to have the highest ranked team playing the lowest ranked team and then drawing whether its home or away. Fine for the 20 premier league getting the 20 teams ranked below the championship, but guess which teams the 24 championship teams will be playing against in the 12 remaining ties?

Not all of them of course but they allow some total morons to come on there. I suppose that way Robbie Savage looks like he speaks sense, which compared to 1 total moron Man City fan yesterday he certainly was.
Another City fan did come on which counter balance sensibleness to be fair.
