austin on 23:34 - Apr 27 with 4332 views | TomS | It was always going to be a case of enjoying him while he's here. We simply can't afford to pay all of his wages. We need to send "thank you" cards to both WBA and Fulham for letting us borrow some very talented players who transformed our team in the second half of the season.
austin on 03:39 - Apr 28 with 4144 views | dixiedean | I don’t think we should sign him anyway. Take the sentiment out of it and it’s mission accomplished. He helped pull us out of the tailspin we were in and got us out of a relegation fight . As a useful by product he has helped the development of our strikers , notably Dykes . So , job done and we move on and spend our budget on a younger striker with pace and a better fitness record. Imagine if we blew the budget on Chaz and he’s injured for half the season?
austin on 07:22 - Apr 28 with 3928 views | HAYESBOY | IMO we need to try and keep Johansen more than Charlie. Played every game since he came and has been more influential. Depends on wages though. But if its possible to keep both and its within budget then, yes please. For me, Cameron, Lumley, & Kelly can be let go freeing up some wages. If Field and Johansen can stay then I would let go Carroll as well. De Wijs I'm still not sure about. Would like to sign Field as well and we must think this is within budget as we would not have had the clause to buy put in. Hopefully all can stay but for me Johansen is a priority.

austin on 07:48 - Apr 28 with 3856 views | mcqpr10 | Love Charlie, played a massive role in turning us round and helped install a winning (maybe nastier) mentality. Honestly think the biggest buzz following us this season was when he scored against Luton. However, a part of me feels reassured we are not smashing up our wage structure to get him. If he doesn't sign, he leaves with his reputation enhanced. Good loan for all parties, Charlie proved he can play plenty of games and bag goals and we got a quality forward at this level to help us out of a tricky situation.

It would be incredible if both signed but if we only get one it could be huge. Reminds me a bit of when we had Simon Royce on loan from Charlton (who were then in the Prem at the time). Ollie wanted to sign him permanently but I remember him saying we couldn't get anywhere near his Charlton wages... He eventually signed because he was an important member of that QPR team and only a fringe player at Charlton. Sounds a similar situation to both Charlie and Stefan?
austin on 08:30 - Apr 28 with 3729 views | davman | He won't be here. He loves being here, but not so much to lose £10-15k per week over a two year contract (approx £1.1-1.6m in total). Johansen is still under contract at Fulham, who are coming back to this level, so even though paying the wage was unlikely, paying a fee on top of that makes it even more remote. De Wjis would have been much more likely if he wasn't so injury prone and you'd think Sam Field would have played more of he is going to be here next season. All in the balance and I can actually see none or just one of them with us next season.

How often has he been injured since he came back? I'd like to see him stay, he's had a massive positive influence on this team
austin on 10:45 - Apr 28 with 3323 views | danehoop | I think the club is keeping its options open as far as it can on all of the players mentioned. Charlie was the perfect loan signing at that moment we needed him and been fantastic in what we asked. In reality though he is out of our price range and suspect that even if WBA looked to make a severance package with him, he would still be out of our price range and would probably have better offers. Our awesome Norwegian is likely to be a very similar position, perhaps different in that Fulham are likely to want to retain him for next season as he will ideal for what they need to get promoted again. De Wijs has the potential to be good for us, but his injury record this season, albeit with accidents and niggles, hasnt really allowed us to get full benefit. He may be cheapest option, but not necessarily value because of the injuries. Field is probably most interesting and fits more readily into the type of player with potential we have looked for and one we can develop and sell for a profit. Interestingly though we didn't activate the 12 appearance to give us the automatic option to sign him. That may indicate cost is a factor in his purchase and we are looking to keep options open. I think in that list I'd really want to move heaven and earth to sign Johansson if we could possibly could as our priority. He has been the best addition to the team and is a class above most players in the division. We want him, he has undoubtedly really enjoyed being with us and knows we rate him and effectively built the side around him. Field would be my second choice on the list, as he ticks so many boxes for us and again is clearly enjoying being with us. We also have Amos coming back from injury hopefully and a decision to be made on Carroll as well. Amos can fill a similar role to Field so suspect it maybe an either/or with Johansson though in our decision making if the Norwegian is available. De Wijs. I have a suspicion that although he is cheap and we like him, we may not risk it. Basically a decision will come down to views of medical team and price. Again if we need the funds to get the Johannson and/or Field we may pass. Charlie is the one that to me falls in the "nice to have" tray. It would be great and massively help morale and improve Dykes, Bonne and Kelman to learn from such a quality player. But he is expensive, I think still ambitious to prove he can play at a higher level than we might be able to offer and is likely to have already attracted the attention of other richer sides. The key issue in all of this is money. It's clear we are strapped for cash even with the Eze money. We only have a very limited transfer and salary budget next year and no idea what future income streams will look like. Transfer revenues are likely to be depressed as well. So I suspect at best we may get 2 out of the 4 loans in on a permanent basis, and if money dictates things it will be deWijs (subject to medical team views) and Field if we are lucky.

austin on 10:51 - Apr 28 with 3292 views | bosh67 | I think the max wage we could give Charlie is £10K a week which would be a mega drop for him. However, he does have other interests including radio, TV and other business ventures so if there was a contract on offer at that rate I don't think he would turn it down flat if living back in London suits his family and media interests.

Only way we will get him or Johansen is to offer big bonuses for goals and promotion Austin will already be a millionaire so for him I don't think wages are as big a draw as being part of something, he wants to be pushing for another promotion whether that is here or at West Brom or elsewhere.

austin on 11:21 - Apr 28 with 3163 views | BazzeR | If Charlie Austin completed a full pre-season schedule then i think it would be fair to say he would guarantee the team 20 goals barring an injury. If finances allowed the signing of Austin then he should be the clubs number 1 summer transfer target.

austin on 12:49 - Apr 28 with 2908 views | Northernr | He said he's deeply in love with QPR and will play for us for free as long as the club show some ambition to push for promotion. Should he miraculously end up playing for a club that for FFP, income, turnover, parachute payment and rules of the competition reasons can pay him far more than we can then it is purely down to their greater ambition, and QPR's lack of ambition, and we should Tweet our digust at the club for its lack of ambition en masse for the next 18 months or so.

"Interestingly though we didn't activate the 12 appearance to give us the automatic option to sign him. That may indicate cost is a factor in his purchase and we are looking to keep options open. " Far from keeping our options open this on the face of it has closed them. Even if he had 12 appearances we would not be obliged to buy him. Not starting him for the 12 games is either a mistake or the deal has already been done. Also I note that on the voting site it excludes loan players but Field is on the list for young player [Post edited 28 Apr 2021 13:44]
