Can’t remember why I preferred Tiswas to Swap Shop
Swap Shop is too nicy nicy. Whereas Tiswas was radically different and was done for comic effect.
A lot of the violent acts were ripped from cartoons. Bucket of water, fake pies and so on. So, it was not violence for the sake of it. More Three Stooges type of comedy for comic effect.
But of course, some idiots outside of the show would take it too far and then it had to stop. Made Lenny Henry and Chris Tarrant famous did that show. They probably would have made it anyway but it accelerated their careers.
And don't forget Bob Carolgees and Spit the Dog. Great stuff, that will no way be repeated outside cartoons today.
