All welsh sports is to take place behind closed doors from Boxing Day.How long before the same happens in England?
Are cases higher in Wales than in the London area?

away games are fine though, virus knows when you are in an away end

People should be able to make their own mind up now about going to big events, you need a negative test or a vaccine to go anyway so if you are worried don't go if not there should be nothing stopping you

I disagree with that DaveB.

It's not about the individual making his own mind up, it's about the collective good. That is slowing this thing down before there are no police, no NHS, no fire service etc.

I can make my own decision but there is a lot of irresponsibility in a football crowds, as we have seen at Peterborough and at home to Luton. How many people wore a mask when using the concourse when it wasn't compulsory? Just a handful were responsible enough to think about the possible spread. A large section of people will carry on as normal unless stopped.

but to get in a football stadium now you need to either have a negative test or be vaccinated so I'm struggling to see why they should be shut down. If it's about travelling to games then shut down the transport system as people use it regularly for things other than going to football.

Yes you may feel safer in the ground, more so if people wore masks, but what about travelling to the ground on the underground, rail or bus. Will we be able to get enough stewards and other staff prepared to work for a 5.30 kick off, because of sky, and risk their own health.

you have to wear masks on trains, buses etc anyway so shouldn't be any different, Would agree though that stewarding is going to be as big issue for clubs in the next few weeks

Gutted about this as I was due to go to Swansea on 3rd January. I know what you’re saying Dave, but I was at England v Sri Lanka earlier this year, and you would still have been waved through by the stewards if you’d held up your phone and shown them a picture of your dog - it was borderline pointless. Plus with lateral flow tests, you can obviously report a negative result whether you were negative or didn’t actually bother doing a test. The Welsh government have been much more cautious than the British government, throughout, so I’m not surprised to see this happen.

Fulham FC: It's the taking part that counts

This all has the feeling of early March 2020 about it at the moment, I'll be amazed at this rate if we're at the KPF next week for the Bournemouth game.

Football as ever seems to be living in its own little bubble thinking everything can carry on as normal.

yeah they went to Vaccine passports a few months before England. I should say I fully expect us to be behind closed doors in the New year but I think at some point people are going to have to be allowed to make their own decisions. I find it incredible that nearly 2 years into this we still don't have a good track and trace system which would give an indication of how these 90,000 cases a day are spreading is it shops, pubs, transport, hospitals, schools no one seems to have a clue. If you knew where the spread was happening it would be a lot easier to put restrictions in place to have a strong effect

I think they know that a lot of the spread of covid is happening in schools. They can't really admit that though as nobody, teachers included, wants schools shut again. Now that kids are catching it, often without symptoms, and spreading it, it's going to very difficult to slow it down. As others have said, let's hope symptoms are fairly mild for most. FWIW, a report on the radio this morning said that 4 out of 5 people in hospital haven't had a vaccine and of the other 20% most have some kind of immuno suppression condition.

I think they'll let the boxing day games go ahead with crowds but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see stricter restrictions in place from midnight on Boxing day which might prevent any crowds at our game.

Is test and trace going to be effective against a strain that spreads so rapidly? I was pinged on a Thursday at the beginning of November after a flight the previous Saturday (I'm assuming the trigger was the flight). If I'd got it Saturday and become infectious but asymptomatic within 48 hours I could have been spreading it for 2-3 days before I knew a thing.

It's no great mystery where covid spreads - it spreads everywhere that people are in more than fleeting contact with each other. You can't get it or spread it if you stay away from other people. It could hardly be more simple.

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

But how many ignore the requirement on the underground, either getting to the platform or once on the train.

There's fukkall deaths here in Wales.Little pipsqueak Drakeford flexing his flabby musculature again and trying to divert attention from Boris-esque transgressions of the Covid "rules".
Welsh Grand National has been axed as well.

Absolutely this, its supremely simple, stay away from people as much as you possibly can and you are less likely to catch covid. Cluster together like penguins sheltering from a blizzard you will almost certainly get it. everything else is on a pretty obvious sliding scale of risk, some of which for many people is unavoidable.

Also if i hear one more journalist asking someone if they can "Rule out" this or that restriction in the future i shall scream. No they cant because they are not Gods!

I don't see the point of this, though, if you're still allowed to go to restaurants, not wearing masks, cafes, not wearing masks, and pubs, not wearing masks, why is an outdoor football game more infectious? And if it's about getting to the event, there are loads of people on buses and trains not wearing masks, either, and loads of people go to our local shopping centre on public transport.

It's like gesture politics to show they're doing something, without upsetting the economy too much and not upsetting too many of their supporters - who cares about football fans, after all?

I went to the theatre in town the other day - Dear Evan Hansen, brilliant, if you enjoyed Book of Mormons, you'll love it - and in the outdoor markets in the South Bank, hardly anyone wearing a mask and you couldn't put a fag end between the people queuing up for food.

Right from the beginning I've been happy to do my bit but I don't think you can do things selectively. If they stop football after Christmas while allowing all the other things I've mentioned it will be infuriating.

It wouldn't stop the virus but it would give you more information about where it spreads if there is a pattern and help to decide what areas of society need to be closed down to slow the spread down.

Only 500 fans let for the old firm game on January 1st.That will work well won’t it?People will have already booked flights and ferries and will probably head over anyway.
How would you narrow down 50-60k to 500?

Easy, just restrict entry to non-sectarians.

Pretty much sums up what’s wrong with that local derby.
