Typical championship fayre that could have gone either way. Perhaps we were better, but they certainly had their chances (and I suppose we had a few too). The atmos in that ground first half was dead, like nothing I have experienced anywhere watching football; silence apart from abuse to the ridiculously myopic lino and his utterly useless boss. Ten minutes of absolute buffonary from them as per the norm.
Not sure Jimmy knew much about the winner, but we'll take that all day!
And out housing that lot in their backyard.

Just walked in.
Absolute touch, a real reward for the hardcore.
I thought we were very good indeed in the first half and would have been two up at least but for better luck. I know 'luck' sounds a bit wet but Field has scored with his shot, hits a bloke who knows nothing about it, Tim's shot beats the keeper all ends up and we're riht behind it to see it make this weird deviation in the air late on to take it onto the inside of the post, Laird nearly Wegerle's a goal of the season and again whacks it against a bloke who didn't even know it had happened.
Felt we could and should have pressed on to win by more after finally, deservedly taking the lead, but I get the nerves and the mental element that comes with a long losing run so I'm choosing to delight in us shithousing the shthousers on their own patch. Almost makes me wish I could have heard Nick London's commentary. Almost.
17 hour day, went up to Sheffield to pick Young Samuel up from uni, across the Snake Pass which we managed just before the snow closed it off for the day (adventurous), lunch and three points, then a long slog back down the M6 (smart motorway, into the sea with you), and the M40 (old school, absolute breeze bar one car that Went On Fire). Dropped him in the Bush and back to mine, making the offy closing time with 10 minutes to spare.
Tim MOTM IMO. Nice to see the central midfielders driving forwards more to join the attack and pose their own goal threat. Nice to see Laird back to form. Paal excellent as usual. Dykes gave a Hunter-pleasing hard slog of a performance up front. Was surprised how long Preston went, Dunne ate that sht up all afternoon.

I just wonder whether Critchley may be the first boss to look at what he has up front and try to sculpt something around Dykes rather than expecting him to be something he is not and run on to through balls from two number tens.
His strength is his first time flicks, so maybe use that and get runners beyond him? Not rocket science, is it, but he looked good at doing that today. A bit more direct at times with the Midfield picking up second balls. Maybe, just maybe...

Agreed. Very noticeable from the stream how much quicker Dunne, JCS, field were getting the ball forwards - even if that meant going longer more often. After 3 1/2 years of looking at direct play as sacrilege I’d be quite content with more of it when it’s suitable, as you say Davman this is what Dykes is good at; being a battering ram. If NC can make Gary Madine look like a championship striker then Lyndon has every chance under him |  | | |

A few players were on top form, hard to pick a winner but Laird was back to his earlier form, Dunn was massive and so was C-Salter, there were others Tim, Albert, and Paal plus, of course Seny.

Similar for me live at the game. The ball had gone and it looked like a pointless, late "charge" at the defender. I thought that the way the ref had dealt out an unnecessary card to Dozzell and given PNE a free kick on the edge of our area for booting fresh air. Dykes was for an early bath.

It's far too early to judge Critchley but he's clearly seen we can effectively play out of defence quicker and longer using Dykes as the focal point.
Not rocket salad of course but it shows he's not wedded to a more purest approach to football. Neither Warburton nor the shyster wanted us to play like that.
As Blackpool supporters said of him, he's a pragmatist and, for at least yesterday's game, we looked better for it. |  | | |

The Dozzell one seemed harsh to me. He looked like he was genuinely going for the ball, which he was entitled to and wasn't reckless. It wasn't an accumulation of bad tackles either as it was so early in the game. I'm assuming it was the reaction of the crowd, the player (how many times did he roll ffs), and the other Preston players.
It certainly hampered him for the rest of the match as he couldn't tackle after that (it was obvious they were trying to get one of ours sent off, Johnson in particular constantly in the ref's ear). IDK why refs don't just tell players to get out of their faces and they'll book them if they keep at it. It would cut out all this kind of stuff.
Anyway it did make the win especially sweet, given them moaning at us about sh*thousing, as others have pointed out. | | | |

Sorry, I've gone all 1950s this morning, Nick, that's a good quote. It's something about winning away at PNE and the giddiness that comes with a win where I assumed it would be a nailed-on loss. And the subdued arrival of someone who could actually prove to be a great boss.

It was a yellow card. No less, no more than that. Left a bit on the defender but he was battling all game , won nearly every flick on and gave the Preston defence some graft. I thought it was a solid performance by Dykes. |  |

Tim was absolutely immense and Motm. He’s going to have off days because of his age and inexperience. But he’s borderline unplayable on days like yesterday.
Compare him with Eze at the same stage in their development and you realise Tim’s potential. Shame he’s not ours. |  | | |

I saw Tim play for the England under 19s and 20s several times and I think he has the potential to be another Bellingham. He is a very strong unit but he has great feet and he has really good awareness. Bellingham is a bit of a phenomenon but Iroegbunam feels like with an extra year's development here he could be knocking on the door of the England team for the Euros if he does well here and then back in the Prem. Obviously what we need is for him to stay next season as well for Critchley to bring on. And then the next season and perhaps the five or so beyond that. It is a shame we haven't been able to get him, Richards and Roberts on the park together. I'm looking forward to seeing Richards come through. For me he has the potential and certainly the skill to be another Eze for us. |  |

Was literally about to post that Tim reminds me of Bellingham. Obviously nothing like the finished article, but he has that potential. And I know him and Laird and Roberts are all loanees, but it's still exciting to have such talented young players in our squad. | |

Certainly 1st half.
They had only two chances and none what I would call half chances - all in the 2nd half.
As NC said afterwards, 2nd half we could and probably should have made much more our break aways - or "transitions" as we're now supposed to call them!
Some better decision making, often just taking a bit more time and we could/should have won that a tad more comfortably. | | | |
