| Hearts (or Hibs, or Aberdeen etc etc) 08:42 - Feb 2 with 7210 views | kingsburyR | I was browsing thru the BBC sports website when I see Rangers and Beale being lorded over last nights away performance at Hearts. Realistically what level would Hearts (third in the Prem) fit into in the English pyramid? | |
| Dont know why we bother. .... but we do! |

| Hearts (or Hibs, or Aberdeen etc etc) on 09:05 - Feb 2 with 5383 views | Rs_Holy | I was just about to post something similar about this very subject... Is the Scottish Prem the most uncompetitive league in the world??? Rangers (in 2nd place) now have an 18 point gap to the 3rd placed team (Hearts). Last nights match (away to 3rd placed Hearts) had the following stats... Hearts shots = 6, on target = 2, corners = 1 Rangers shots = 20, on target = 9, corners = 7 Rangers won 3-0 away to a team who were unbeaten in 10 matches. | | | |

I reckon the Jambos would genuinely be upper mid-table in League One at most on a par with Barnsley or Wycombe. That's nothing against them (they are my Scottish team) but it is an honest assessment of where football north of the border now sadly is. They play some nice football and have some promising players in Shankland, Ginnelly, McKay and others. But no way would they survive in the Championship. Celtic Championsip play-offs, Rangers Championship mid-table. Hibs, Livi and Aberdeen maybe perennially fighting League One relegation. The rest, League Two or National League at best. He will get away with losing the title to Celtic this season and that’s probably what will happen. If he doesn’t win it next season, GR will bin him off. As always - come on the Hoops.

they have won every game apart from a draw with Celtic since Beale took charge... but its a bit like playing Fifa with it on level 1 ... Comms and studio guests must be as motivated to sound excited as a QPR loan player. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
| Hearts (or Hibs, or Aberdeen etc etc) on 11:41 - Feb 2 with 4957 views | SydneyRs | They've had a couple of very fortunate results and seem to get a penalty or red card to the opposition in every game. There is an ongoing discussion up there about how Rangers are refereed and it's being further exposed now there is VAR in Scotland. They've not conceded a penalty in something like 50 games and their penalty differential of pens given vs conceded is way out of whack with all other teams both in Scotland and elsewhere. A couple of the top refs are known to be Rangers supporters and still offciate their games. It's dodgy to say the least. Oppo player was sent off on Saturday after a VAR review. It was never a red and has since been rescinded. Ok to do it afterwards once the points are safely in the bag. As for Hearts, they always seem to roll over for Rangers and did once again. | | | |
| Hearts (or Hibs, or Aberdeen etc etc) on 12:09 - Feb 2 with 4889 views | slmrstid | There's a good number of Scottish clubs (the three in the title all being so) that if they played in the English system would eventually be good Championship clubs, or even dipping in and out of the top flight, because they're good sized clubs with good sized stadiums and fanbases. But because Scottish football is so heavily weighted in favour of the Gruesome Twosome, and there's fk all money in the league for everyone else, they can only attract players that would just about manage League 1 or League 2 level here. And thus means they can barely compete so every year is just a fight for third, or at least to not get relegated. Depressing, really. | | | |

Celtic and Rangers have both reached European Finals in the last 20 years - Rangers have reached 2 - and would be among the biggest supported teams in the Premier League. That's on Scottish TV money.... With English TV money and the inevitably that both would be bought by significantly wealthy overseas owners within a few months of their application to join the English system being accepted they'd be competing for honours within a few years. It is staggering that English fans still don't understand how big the Old Firm are... As for Hearts, with English TV money they'd 100% be regular participants in the Premier League and at worse outside the Play Offs in the Championships most years.

Hibs, Hearts, Aberdeen and Dundee United are bigger clubs than QPR and most of the Championship...

Sure Old Firm might be big in terms of support, but the standard of their football (and Scottish Prem as a whole) is hardly that great.

And yet both have reached European Finals in the last 20 years.... How many other countries outside the big 4 of England, Germany, Italy and Spain can say they've had 2 sides reach European Finals in the last 20 years...?

Because there's not much money or opposition in Scottish football so what are they supposed to do? If they were in the prem with access to prem TV money they'd be very competitive. Both have huge support and get 50k plus at home games even against the weak teams in their league.

Celtic and Rangers bring 10-20k for friendly matches in England but would struggle to compete against QPR and Reading.... When will the penny drop with these people?

On this thread? Ok, maybe you have a point but it's definitely been suggested before on here and often in England.... As for your second point, the usual response from English fans is as above: "Scottish football will always be a joke. It's worthless." We're talking about one of the top 10-15 leagues in Europe and one of the top 25 - 35 leagues Worldwide which has produced more European finalists in the last 20 years than most non top-4 countries and we still get bollox like that being spoken. Scottish fans attribute this to arrogance and ignorance but it's just people being thick. [Post edited 7 Feb 2023 11:57]
