Having read the argument as to why we get Stroud/Ward more than other refs (Southern based) I am curious how the league has decided that Ward is suitable for Wigan away rather than one of the Northern refs?

Weirdly ever since I wrote that piece it's balanced up a lot.
We've had Bond x2 (Lancashire) a couple of times, Eltringham (Durham), Doughty (Blackpool), Simpson (Lancashire), Bankes (Merseyside) from the north along with a couple of dates with Linington (Isle of Wight) who we get a lot and Whitestone (Northants). That's a pretty good run, we never get a lot out of Bankes, and Simpson is an absolute fcking wnkr, but Bond, Eltringham, Linington about as good as it gets at this level.
Since that piece Stroud has had a first trip to Huddersfield in two years, a game at Middlesbrough, a dramatic collapse at Sunderland v Swansea, a game at Rotherham, one at Blackburn and one at Sheff Utd in his last dozen fixtures. His previous dozen included Cardiff, Coventry, Millwall, Coventry, Cardiff, Coventry, Norwich, Bristol and Oxford which is a joke really.

Fair enough, but Stroud and Robinson ARE PGMOL1 I believe, not sure about the other 2.
As you say it may be a consequence of the requirement for VAR officials, so they have to use PGMOL2 as 4ths in the PL.
Who knows what they will do when VAR arrives in the Championship?! | | | |
