Not allegedly (don't think they'll be checking LFW for libel...)

FIFA 2030 WC - Idiotic? on 21:58 - Oct 5 with 1991 views | ManinBlack | The plan was it was just going to be Spain, Portugal and Morocco hosting it. Then Uruguay, with Chile and Argentina backing them, pointed out to FIFA that it was the 100th anniversary of Uruguay hosting the first one in 1930 and it should be held in Uruguay to commemorate this. FIFA had already given their word to Spain and Co to host it, so they compromised by accepting the three South American countries bid hence why it doubled to six countries. I don't suppose FIFA dignitaries worry about things like net zero as they jet around the venues.

There are only three games in South America, one in each country . The host country qualifies auto so only the three opponents will have to travel . Premier League teams will think nothing of flying their first teams to China or similar every chance they get without a care for the environment. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

It was certainly engineered this way in order to give Saudi Arabia a free run at the following WC (although Australia technically have 25 days to put in their own bid - no idea why they'd waste the money at this point). What's slightly getting lost is that the WC 2034 host/s were supposed to be decided in 2027 - Infantino's unilaterally brought that forward four years in order to be able to benefit from more Saudi contracts and brown envelopes

FIFA 2030 WC - Idiotic? on 09:07 - Oct 6 with 1657 views | Padulas_Shampoo | So a minimum of 72 years since England have hosted a World Cup. I know that's not new news but how can that possibly be? 48 years for Italy too. Netherlands still never hosted one. I just don't get it. I mean I do, it's crooked of course... But it's so blatant and egregious. What's next? The Winter Olympics in Cairo? Cricket World Cup in Reykjavik? Everything gets poisoned by capitalism eventually I guess. I feel for younger people that never got to see Italia 90, France 98 or Even Germany in 2006. Not sure we'll ever have World Cups like those ever again.

Italia' 90 is still my favourite. Everything was great from the opening game until the end there was just something special about it. Roger Milla, Gazza crying, Platt's volley, resplendant refurbed San Siro, erm.. Pavarotti.. all that stuff. I think you are right youngsters wont get one like that again I feel. I guess not having Internet/social media made it more special, just TV and t'papers. [Post edited 6 Oct 2023 9:32]

Hands down the greatest WC ever, totally agree. So much soul in that WC and it just made the entire thing completely magical. Nessun Dorma still makes my eyes well up to this day. I have a Corinthian figure of Toto Schillaci on my desk in front of me as I type. Pure magic. It's a very different sport to fall in love with these days. [Post edited 6 Oct 2023 10:01]

Yep it was great - 1990 and 1986 the peak IMO. 1986 probably shaded it for me with those images and commentary that seemed to beamed in from outer space (well, they kind of were I suppose). And the football was a lot better even if it lacked the characters and dramatic themes of 1990. A 24 team tournament hosted in one country, seemed to work absolutely fine. If it ain't broke don't fix it. But this is FIFA we're talking about and now more than ever it's about the $$$$$$ and not 'For The Good of the Game' (oh the irony!)

FIFA 2030 WC - Idiotic? on 12:27 - Oct 6 with 1380 views | Toast_R | 86 for me. Some great teams in there, The USSR, Argentina with Maradona, France with Platini and who can forger their QF clash with that Brazilian team that had Careca, Zico and Socrates. Even Denmark were class until they unexpectedly capitulated. Throw in the Atzteca Stadium and the Hand of God and its a completely unrivalled World Cup IMO, even if the West Germans still somehow made the final. [Post edited 6 Oct 2023 12:29]

This nonsense and then Saudi 2034 just adds to the mess. The tournament will go on for the whole summer, another mini-league really on top of the Champions (sic) League and regular domestic Leagues.
