Great article about cost of football... 13:29 - Feb 28 with 1864 viewsAntti_Heinola

Seem to remember Disco or paulparker lamenting you don't see groups of young lads going to football much anymore. Price is a major reason. I think we still give free tickets to under 8s? But maybe the club needs to look at discounts for 16-25 year olds.

Bare bones.

True enough. Where I sit there's hardly anyone under about 50. Yet when we played MK Dons in the cup with cheap admission, I was surrounded by youngsters. That said, I've had the old bloke concession for a few years now and worry that the club may withdraw this at some stage particularly if it was to pass the concession on to say, under 21s.

When I was old enough and started going with my mates on my own I was around 13
then it was a big adventure as we lads had not much to do on a Saturday other than try and get your fingers stinky in the park or look for old porno mags in the bushes
in them days you paid £4 or £5 pound to stand in the paddocks (which you could then walk around to the loft ) , a train fare cost you £0.50p as well meaning you could get to football and have change left over from a tenner
now kids have iphones, ipads, game stations , SKY tv in their rooms you name it they have it , they don't have to leave the house , there is a game on every night why go and support your local team and see it live
mums and dads don't let their kids out of there sight either these days plus the tickets are now over £20 plus walk up charges , kids have more options than watch our hoofball
also this may be controversial to some but when we went as teenagers we used to always stand and have a laugh or torment the oppo fans with the old nescafe gesture going to football then had an edge you were entering a mans passage the game these days is sanitised to death there's no fun in sitting next to some old boy with his flask and programme telling you off because you called lee tomlin a fat kunt
the only way the game will be saved is by bringing back terraces , reducing prices and reducing the games on TV and I think we know the answer to all of them

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

kids prefer to watch skills videos on youtube than games on tv.
the game doesn't need 'saving' as such, only in terms of live viewing. i don't think it needs terracing for that, although safe standing might help. Even as a kid i never bothered much with taunting oppo fans, always seemed a bit pointless to me. Went to loads of games and saw idiot kids and lads spending the entire game looking at the fans instead of the game and could never get my head round it.
It is a shame. i get to games 20 secs before KO now. Used to love being in a packed loft at 2.30pm, near front, by a particular bar to lean on, to the right of the goal and the atmosphere would slowly build. Singing while players in the tunnel. Never get that anymore. Totally different time.

Bare bones.

I was only telling my new lloyd cole and brand new friend chris charles the other day that my eldest , 26, has thrown in the towel and his season ticket at West Ham due mainly to cost.

A trip to West Ham fc is much like a trip to the thx 1138 re education centre.. Sanitised , re packaged and sedated, only unlike the thought control droids of thx 1138 , west ham charge you £700 quid a season ticket for the pleasure.

Along with his mates, including a few top notch goodmayes sikh lads, they now go to honest dagenham and redbridge fc.. and fk me they love it.

Yeh agree with this.
Kids have been overexposed to football on tv. Dare i say it i think a lot of youngsters are bored with it. I'm only going by how my 16 year old and his mates are. Ive watched games with them and they're on their phones most the time.
Youtube is where its at unfortunately and playing games online.
My lad does come to games with me and enjoys it(if we win of course)but tbh ive hardly been this season. Maybe i'm not setting the right example but then my dad hated football and never took me. I used to love jumping on the 33 bus and meeting my mate in Barnes and going to games when i was his age.
Having said that we were both looking at the Blue season tickets for next season as they are cheap. Cost is a massive factor for most i think.

Dunno about 16 to 25 year olds, usually living with their parents and no financial commitments. What about People in their 30s (I'm 3-9..err yeah 30's) with a Mortgage for a property in and around London with extortionate childcare costs? That''s where I am and the main reason why I can rarely go to QPR thesedays days and have to settle for non league football on a Saturday. Where's my discount?

Or is it footballs just too bloody expensive nowadays?

I was at Kilmarnock v Hibs away game the other day and pleasantly surprised by £20 on the gate price with unallocated seating. I was on my own and was sat on my own but within a group of similar aged and families whereas the Hibs 'young team' all came in together and pitched up behind us to our right, maybe 100-150 14-20yr olds?
Made for a great sing song as they kept things going for the whole game and I had a wistful thought of age, jealous of them and the fact they were all together having a good time despite Hibs starting like a train going 2 up and then settling for 2-2. Good on them and hopefully they carry on enjoying their match day experience

one of my sons decided to come on Saturday his young adult ticket was £19(I think) plus a £5 surcharge for buying on the day....why?

Is it because they have to pay the person on the ticket window to be there? No he's there anyway.

He said this team dont look that bothered so why should he.

I'm sixty now so my season ticket drops from £500 odd to £360 plus I get Smegs drive me around london for nothing!!!

captains fantastic

Many clubs offer of cheap deals for kids these days.

Only thing is, they almost always need to be accompanied by an adult.

Seems the days are gone when a few young kids could decide to turn up to watch a match on their own on 'pocket money' prices.

I think PP is right the days of a load of 13 year olds strolling down on a whim are gone, but I took my mate and his young daughter along last season and sat in the lower loft away from my usual seat and it was full of kids.

No Nescafé gesture sadly, but still plenty of yunguns getting into the R’s.

It’s one thing our clubs is good at at the moment.

Main issue is Premier League clubs can afford to offer subsidised tickets but invariably fill their stadiums so not a huge issue for them whereas EFL clubs don't but need every penny they can get from gate receipts.

Bottom line, the players are paid far too much. I would guess the feast of football we're getting each week at LR is performed by players on, at a guess, around £250,000 to £500,000 a year. Are they really worth that kind of money?

Other factors too for many I'd assume, taking London as an example, how many more people live outside London and follow QPR (following the moves to the Suburbs and beyond throught the last 50 odd years, this is just one example but say in 1970 I wonder hopw many people who went regularly had more than a short tune ride at most.

How many of their kids etc were moved out of London and dont have the same opportunities to go with the lads to that club, and wouldnt want to follow a more local side.
