When There Were Terraces 15:41 - Apr 14 with 1248 viewsBoston

....did you always go to the same few square feet, to your own little spot? Not like you could put a towel down in that area so how miffed were ya when some other blokes were in ‘your ‘piece of Loftus Rd? I was a bit of a wanderer, started on the School End, then to the Loft(preferred the back), quit them when the lads from the Paddock done us a favour, went over there for a while ‘till they put the seats in, back to the Loft with occasional visits to the School End.

same two square feet. I wasn't particularly tall as ag teenager, so I was always front row, just to the left of the goal - where the section that comes out for grounds keeping is. still friends with several of the people I stood next to.

Follow up question - did you stay in the same spot when the seats came in or did you move?

I went off to Uni so didnt renew my ST until I came back, so had to make do with spare seats. Ended up in UL.

Why stop now, just when I'm hating it

We would stand on the South Africa Road side level with the penalty spot at the end the R’s were attacking. Half time we would go and occupy the same area at the other end. Happy days....

Early Fifties up steps at loft end down to 1st Crash Barrier and sit on bar with leg wrapped around an upright till got a bit bored then wandered of to the corner T shed for a hot Bovril.

If at first you dont succeed, pack up and f**k off home.

Top corner of the loft, just about 5 metres from the tea bar, 2nd barrier down.
3 of us stood their every game and got the right ump when Man U tried to take our 3 foot off us that time.
Words were said.

It's being so happy that keeps me going.

Same little bit of terrace in The Loft just the Ellerslie Road side of the goal.

Tickets for the loft had sold out for the Chelsea FA Cup 6th round game so we had to stand in SA Road. That is why we lost!

Yes, always went to the same spot and always saw the same people around me.

Lower Loft, left of the goal as you look at the pitch, about halfway between the goal and the corner flag and just under the upper tier so if it rained we'd be ok.

from 1968 to 1970, the kids pen to the left of the goal.
from 1970 to 1972ish in the corner of the loft where pu is now. used to be a little food hut there.
1972 to 1980 when the loft was re-built, right at the back to where all the loft boys congregated......see some sights in them days.

Poll: how many games this season....home/away.

Just to the right as you look at the Loft end goal, always - ALWAYS - behind the bar, so I had something to lean on. I'd get there at 1.30pm to be sure, and then I'd have a 90 min wait for the game to start. Now I get in at 2.59.

Bare bones.

Always, old Loft end, half way between the centre stairs and the front.
After that mainly in SA Road block F where I tend to go now as and when I go as dad had a ST there for years.

Started off in the paddocks for a couple of years, then went by the old tea bar where Q block is now, then to the left of the goal towards the front of the loft. Then stayed in the metal bit were ML is now for years.
Big games were a bit of a pain with loads of new faces trying to muscle in but there used to be about 10-15 of us so we could normally stand our ground.Moved to NL when the seats went in,but now back in ML.

From 1986 - 1988 down the front sat on a bar which felt like I was miles in the air, moving further back in early 90’s standing towards back of the Loft - right of the goal. Roughly where KL is now.

Old Loft

Top of the center stairs and in the middle, down a bit. Made friends, went to away games together and still kept in contact until I moved away.

Great times

Loft end, from top of the stairs down the left (Ellerslie Road) diagonal walkway. To the left at the end of the walkway. Always a mix of 10-20 mates.

With the old man at the Loft end by Ellerslie about 5 metres from the front as we used to arrive quite late. My mate, on the other hand, used to get there about 1.30 to get his spot at the very front of the Loft to the left of the goal as you looked from the pitch. I'd attempt to join him at half time which didn't always go down well with those around him. He used to stand alonside the President of the Stan Bowles fan club and is clearly visible when Stepney saves Stan's penalty in the 1975/76 season.

I started off in the Paddocks, then to The Loft. I didn't have a spot but was always at the front. I was only 15 but looked 12 when we lost the terraces. I would have loved to have been in the middle but I was too short

Always tried to get in early so I could stand in the paddock/sar just to the left of the half way line. Always aimed for the same crush bar and flop over it to protect my space and critically, my view. There were familiar folk near me, every week, some of whom were very funny. My current view from C Block SAR is nearest I've been able to maintain that view.

Paddock next to the tunnel on the Loft side was our spot for years. Loved it, you could abuse the managers, in those days you'd quite often get away fans on the other side of the tunnel, and a decent view of the game from the halfway line. And £1.50 to get in!

Because you're leaning on a bar?
