Impressive mental gymnastics on display.

In the same article it says that their policy is to not sign players under 26 on more than 10k per week and what a coup it was to sign 30 year old cooke on a deal until 2024? What's all that about?

It’s completely delusional. Just the four signings in January and they want to be applauded for not making more.

And I doubt Birmingham are paying much more than half of Lyle Taylor’s £30k pw basic.

If there’s a more gullible newspaper than the Guardian out there, you’ll be hard pushed to find it, absolute mugs.

They’re due a Steve Caulker promo, not had one for a few months.

They might be getting rid of deadwood but I’m not sure they’re getting smarter with their signings, how many loans too..

Also says that Leicester got promoted off the back of “careful scouting and management” which completely ignores the fact that they also spent years spending big money some of which contributed to promotion, although I acknowledge they did learn & get smarter around the time of their promotion.

I take it your not Gaurdian fan Steve ?
I thought it was odd piece myself.
If putting your house in order is not making a 30 million yearly loss ..well that's pretty frightening.
David Conn is well respected Gaurdian journalist who investigates all aspects of football finances and irregularities. I'm pretty sure he would be having a raised eyebrow or two at it.
Now let me see where my copy of the Sun is where I can a less gullible more truthful take on the football stories of the day.

I'm sure you'll find a similar piece in your newspaper of choice if you look back over the last few weeks. They've all been at it, certainly not just the Guardian.

Do some journalists get treated with stuff for doing these puff pieces or at least offered exclusives further down the line. I can't remember any of our financial cock ups being described as exuberance.

As PPs have said they're probably still paying hefty wages for people like Taylor, Arter and Bong even if the first two are out on loan, and I can't imagine that Grabban and Colbeck will be cheap, so they've hardly had the massive clear out we had to make.It sounds like they're doing better than the completely crazy years but nothing special.

The irony is that the article would make a lot more sense if it had focussed on another team in the same league further up the table and well in the promotion mix!

I'm a plasterer by trade, hardly the Gaurdians average reader . I don't consider myself better than anyone because I read the Gaurdian .
It's got some brilliant writers and it's got an awful lot b**locks in it as well, same as every paper.

Surely there is the traditional Grauniad typo in this sentence……

‘ Leicester, the next Premier League side to be tested by this evolving team, won the top flight thanks to careful scouting and management, making them a role model for Forest. If promotion does not come this season, it would not be the crushing blow it was previously. Instead, Forest would go into next season with a platform to build on, rather than making the wholesale changes that have become tradition at the City Ground.’

Should not ‘evolving team’ be replaced by ‘revolving door’?

And a £32 million loss in 2020. That gives then a £7million headroom for the next two years. Hopefully they can join their dear neighbours in the points deduction league for next season.

There is a big love in for Forest and Derby at the moment. Must be a Cloughie thing. In fairness they did win those trophies before football was invented.
Would be interesting to see the media's view of us if we had won the leauge all those years ago!!

It would be better, having those things in your locker regardless is a thing and rightly so.

That being said others get harsher treatment for not having had those successes when they overspend and get the moneybags type hatred.

I don't doubt there's some inducement to journos it's been known some get backlisted if a club perceives them to not be favourable.

So you have to be a lefty to read the Gaurdian!
I must be reading the wrong newspaper.
I'm niether left nor right.

An awful lot of my mates, mostly QPR fans would tell you the same but if you want to stick a label on me .crack on!!

The Guardian is not a Lefty paper. Anyone who says so doesn’t read it.

Lefty and Liberal are very different things.

It was a badly aimed joke at plasterers . It was tongue in cheek. I wasnt trying to label you left or right. Just having a laugh with your assumption that plasterers dont normally read the Guardian.

You sound like a right hoot though.

I'm sure the Cloughie thing and the fact they once had a really great team 40 odd years ago has a lot to do with the favourable/non critical reporting they get and as you say Derby as well.

Good for them. Shows what a cup run can bring, form, confidence, gate receipts, mood, momentum wise.

Still think the coverage of them atm is a journalistic disgrace. If I went to my news editor with a series of articles blowing smoke up QPR's ars, I'd expect to be told where to get off.
