Rules query.

Playing a 3 ball.
2 balls on the green , I chipped on my ball ended up in a direct line between the hole and another ball.
He marked my ball and moved it away granting him a clear putt.
I came to the green parked my trolley pick my putter as I bent down to pick my ball up he stopped me.
He said that only the player that marks the ball and moves it can replace the ball and remove the marker.
I looked over to the third player who shrugged his shoulders as if to say I don't know.

Is he right

He should have waited for you to mark your own ball IMO .

He should not touch your ball without your consent . I understand the need to speed things up but you are either pals or opponents.

In my Wednesday Golf Boys Society we would be much more interested in pocketing the other guys coin TBH

“If the opponent lifts or deliberately touches the player’s ball at rest or causes it to move, the opponent gets one penalty stroke”.

Might be worth telling your opponent this and say you’ll let him off if he buys you a pint.

I believe he is right although Steve is also correct, he should have asked you to mark it.
I think amongst mates and to speed up the game it shouldn’t really matter though.

A mate of mine got 57pts in the monthly medal at stowmarket golf course, but the guy who he was playing with told him to play another ball from where it went out of bounds.Unfortunately he should’ve gone back to the tee so he was disqualified.I bet he wasn’t a happy bunny.

That used to be the case rule wise, that she marked ball should be replaced by the person that marked it.

However, I believe that rule was removed a few years ago, now anyone can replace it. Obviously it has to be replaced as per where it was marked, normally in front of the marker.

Nobody should be touching your balls without your consent.

2 stroke penalty for touching your ball. And a slap.

Smells like a trout farm in here

I have never known anyone to get 57 points. That's ridiculous. But to score 57, winning the money on the day, then subsequently getting disqualified and keeping your handicap is taking extracting the urine to a different level. Kudos.

It's actually 52. Highest handicap now since the pandemic . It used to be 28. .
With 52 you get 3 shots each hole.
Have a good few holes you can score high points. But 57 I've never heard of that.
A new member at our club won with 45 points.
But his handicap came down from 52 to 40 very quickly.
He is a natural

Your example is how it would work if you were playing off 52. The maximum handicap "index" as it now called is 54.

The handicap index then gets adjusted for the course rating and slope rating to arrive at an allowance for that particular course . A slope of 115 is the baseline , so if you were playing off 20 say with a slope rating of 120 (harder than average) you could receive 21 or 22 shots playing at that course. If the slope is 100(easy...er ) then you may only get 19 . The ratings and conversion charts are normally on a board near the first tee.

I assume its to reflect that as you know not all courses are the same difficulty

I assume this was in a competition? Otherwise if it's just a friendly round who gives a fluck?

You reminded me of a very good book called ‘Tilting at Windmills’ all about a bloke who takes up crazy golf and supporting QPR. It’s a fun read if you ever see it about.
