I can't recall seeing a ref ever get higher than an 8 in your ratings. What would a ref have to do to get a 9 or 10?

It's always noisiest at the shallow end

See Mark Clattenburg play off semi final 2nd leg!

For a 9 or 10, i would expect it to be a high pressure match, lots of difficult KMIs (Key Match Incidents), feisty players, feisty benches - all big decisions correct, all cards correct, match under control at all times.

Even in the real world (Marks out of 100) - not many referees get into the 80s at any level.

Its like asking a player to go through a game without missing the target with any shot, misplacing a single pass or misjudging a single tackle - never going to happen.

Don't forget how good Clattenberg was in out other play off semi final second leg. And at Hillsborough in 2004.

He has been our best referee/lucky mascot this century!

An honourable mention for Sir Chris Foy. In the 2011-2012 Premiership he gave out 86 yellow cards and 8 reds. Of those, he handed out 7 yellows and 2 reds to one team in one match.

I know, there should have been another red at the end....but it didn't really dilute the euphoria when he blew the final whistle.

I agree - bit of a maverick though - outside interests, tatoos - never goes down well, I mean the fact he could actually do the job and do it well..................

Obviously, he got a lucrative offer, but shown a bit more 'love' if you like and considering his age and the possibility of getting the very big games - WC, Euros, CL finals etc at that stage,
he might have stayed longer.

This might be totally wrong Paul, but didn't he leave after the head of PGMA(?) refused to nominate him as the English referee for a World or European Cup, preferring Mike Dean or some other inferior official?

Again, I might have the wrong administrator, but I think this was all part of Phillip Don's reign.

Clattenburg excellent. I also liked Dermot Gallaghers way of playing on regardless ! But like qpr fan mark Halsey - actually Halsey reffed us a few times anyone no how that was allowed ??

Worst of all time got to be a tie between Andy Hall and Rob Styles ! Yes I no many would mention Stroud but at times he’s been ok when I’ve seen him and to be fair was let down by his assistant against Sunderland!

Poll: Now it’s slightly clearer cut who do you want as manager ?

Mr Donohue's record with us is 5,3&2. Clive has marked him 7 on all the five wins, 6 on the draw and 4 and 3 on the losses!

He refs well and we win, last four good so lets hope he is good tomorrow.

In his book Halsey basically said he thought he could still referee us fairly, despite being a fan, found out he couldn't, so he owned up!

Donohue's been decent recently so brace yourself for an absolute 'mare

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

Well...usual caveat, will watch the 90' later tomorrow so all live observations from T block!

Thought he had a decent game.

Both sides had two pretty feeble penalty shouts before their big one at the end - still would have benn soft for me.

Missed an obvious shirt pull on Willock early and a foul on Seny, but nothing major wrong IMHO.

The IDFK for Illy must have been because he thought there was no actual contact - no treatment needed, so he may well have been right.

Our old friend added time - 2 mins (1st) and 5 (2nd) for me. Why he played 4 1/2 at the end, having signalled 3 I don't know!

Not sure about the rest but when 3 mins added time started he then booked their keeper for time wasting over the free kick by the touchline, so that will account for some of it.

I had him down for a 7/8 going into the last minute. He then adds three minutes to a half with subs, injury, a time wasting yellow, and a minute of applause for the queen, and at the end of that waves off one of the more blatant penalties you'll see. Perhaps he knew the last Avanti to Manchester is much earlier now and wanted to get off.

Interested to see the pen shout for myself tomorrow - as ever in football opinions differ - I've seen blatant dive and blatant penalty on here now!

At the match I thought it was a definite penalty, but looked a lot softer on the ITV highlights as Stoke player went down very easily.

Probably one of those that refs will give outside the box but not inside. Silly challenge for Paal to make at that stage though.
