Decent player. Not really a fan of his tunes but he had a more interesting style than Clapton and wasn't as sketchy a person as Page. So definitely the best of the big three UK guitarists.

So sad to see yet another music icon dead. RIP Jeff.
Is it me or is the media obsessed with reporting famous and not-so-famous people's deaths? Almost every day there's another one in the news, and worryingly, often people around the same age as me!
Very sad news,he'd just come off a tour featuring Johnny Depp I believe. Saw him many times at places like The Black Prince Bexley and the Saville Theatre 60's and 70's.Bumped into him at the Underhill Rehearsal Studios when I was working for a band called UPP.(He produced their first album) and Escape Studios,Egerton.Always up for a laugh and a blues jam with that "Oxblood" Les Paul.An all round nice bloke and a true guitar legend. R.I.P mate. Jeff with UPP - Jim Copley drums,Steve Amazing bass and Andy Clark Keyboards.Old mates Jim and Steve no longer with us.

People that write in the media say some strange things. The BBC said Jeff incorporated hiphop(?) into his music? A nice big article in the Times said he was probably the greatest rock guitarists. Fine. But they went on to list 20 guitar greats and bafflingly incuded Joni Mitchell, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Johnny Marr etc. OK, you can say it's a matter of taste but I'd hardly call these people guitar greats.

Even Jeff didn't acknowledge he was one of the best,At a gig at Ronnie Scott's a few years back it was announced that Eric Clapton was about to come on as a guest he said "Well that's me f*cked then".

Have to disagree on Rosetta Tharpe, Colin, me old mucker. She was a masive influence on Beck, page, Clapton et al, especially with that Gibson SG you used to use frequently, and that distorted tone.
