| RND - Whats occurring ?? 17:47 - Jan 8 with 3774 views | numptydumpty | i really would like the club to sign this guy. As i understand it, he is on a season long loan. Sheff Utd have picked up in form, but clearly didnt rate him highly enough to have him compete for a place in their squad this season, but have there been any indications seen by anyone that they will recall him this window or may want him back after a season here. For me any fee £2m or under is a very solid investment. He is exactly what we need as a full back, solid, reliable, seemingly good injury record and does what a full back does and occasionally overlaps with our wingers too. We seem to have had terrible trouble getting decent full backs and a la Edwards if the deal was right, i would be more than happy to see this guy signed permanently. What do others think ?? | |

| RND - Whats occurring ?? on 07:29 - Jan 9 with 2464 views | GroveR | I like him - £2m is a bit punchy for me but apparently Trent is considered one of the best right-backs in the world, and he can't defend. We seem to have had terrible trouble getting decent full backs It's shocking, isn't it? I don't want to get all memberberries but I grew up with a team where two of my favourite players were the full-backs (Bardsely and Wilson) and they were probably the two best players in their positions in the country at the time. I'm on-board with a lot of the transfers done since Nourry has come in but our inability to sort these crucial positions is becoming a worry. I'd have to go back to Danny Simpson as the last actual full-back I thought was up to it only for candle-face to replace him for a formation he in turn binned about 3 games in. | | | |

His fitness with is has been more than decent overall. If we can get him cheap then we should do so as we have actual evidence that he can play consistently well for us. Would’ve thought that he’d have been recalled by Sheffield Utd by now if they wanted him back: Wilder has hardly played him during his previous stint.
| RND - Whats occurring ?? on 09:24 - Jan 9 with 2217 views | nick_hammersmith | It's probably the wages rather than any fee which is causing any hold up. RND is what I thought Jake Bidwell was going to be, a very solid Champ LB. If this equates to a top earner, then its a no from me and we look for the next one. We don't have the depth in the squad to let RND sit out those 3 game weeks | | | |

I was about to say "he's Jake Bidwell but with injuries". Definite no from me. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
| RND - Whats occurring ?? on 09:39 - Jan 9 with 2160 views | Jeff | He's been decent when on the pitch - nothing solid, nothing spectacular, a constant 6/10, which is absolutely fine by me. reminds me a lot of Lee Wallace when he trundles up and down the flank like a steam train. quite frankly we all though that going into the season with Larkeche and Esqua as our two left backs was a ridiculous idea at the time, so i'm grateful to have him here. BUT, and this is an enormous but, painted sky high, he's only 26 and we're having to carefully manage his minutes. Not in a Poku hamstring kind of way, but in a the guy cannot do three games in a week and struggles with back to back games kind of way. He's not some journeyman end of career footballer even if he may look like one. Whether you think that Paal had checked out, was treated poorly, didn't want to be here etc., he gave you 50 games a season, year in year out. I want (Need?) my Defenders to be able to do that for us. I want my LB to be 'Set and Forget' for the season, not worrying who from midfield we're going to have to crowbar in on any given Saturday. i'd have Norrington in the squad if he was cheap (he won't be, he'll be on a whack from Shef U...), but i have to think that there's better out there for us - and definitely if you're talking about anywhere near £2m(!)

I think we should sign him, but tell him that if he's not fit he has to find a mate to fill in for him. Right, what's next?

| RND - Whats occurring ?? on 14:52 - Jan 9 with 1649 views | LoftusFblock | I think we keep him on loan until end of the season and then assess his fitness and make a decision on signing permanently. If he's able to offer us that infamous '7 out of ten every week' then I would say it's a smart signing, just got to sort his fitness out. | | | |

All very fair, but do we know if his minutes need to managed indefinitely or temporarily while he's returning to full fitness?

Yes similar question Stephan has rotated most players in a three game week. I appreciate with RND, someone is trotting out this narrative, but can someone point me to occurrences where this has clearly been an issue. i can only recall a few poor games he has had, but if this has regularly only been on three game weeks - when what i would say nearly all of the squad have played poorly at least once in three game weeks. He does what it says on the tin for me. And we seriously have proven so often with full backs, we have serious issues with finding solid full backs and quite surprised most are finding reasons for us to look elsewhere. With a negotiated deal and wages that are relevant for his role and impact, cant see any evidence shown so far not to sign....

I've 100% heard JS say that they need to manage RND's minutes after he had such a long spell out of first team football. Not sure if this is a forever condition, our tour de France expert would have to say, but I assume these are behind closed doors conversations. --Unless they conduct them in the canteen again in front of some of the posters on this forum...
| RND - Whats occurring ?? on 18:23 - Jan 9 with 1328 views | simmo | £2m for RND is mental stuff. As Jeff says, a half decent defender, which is fine by us, but shouldn't be more than a stop gap towards a better long term solution - which I don't think is Esq or Larkeche either btw. | |

1 per month plus Easter would make that most of our remaining games then wouldn't it?

| RND - Whats occurring ?? on 19:59 - Jan 9 with 1128 views | Hunterhoop | I think he’s much better than 6/10 most weeks. I also think he’s significantly better than Bidwell or Wallace or Paal. I really do. Best left back we have had for a very long time. Physically he’s meets the needs of modern football too. The issues are a) his injury record, and b) at 26 he’ll have limited resale value. Now, I’m a believer that you have to balance signings between the “will turn a profit” and “make today’s team better” camps. He certainly fits the latter. All that said, I’d probably say £1m is fair deal. Problem is, I suspect Utd will want him and play him. He was highly rated before he missed two seasons. He’s done well for us. I doubt they’d sell him on the cheap. | | | |

I don't think either Larkeche or Esquerdinha have been cooked long enough to know how well they might perform given time. One, or both, could do job for us down the line. Larkeche showed some decent signs in his few outings at LB. He was also doing OK in Scotland before his current long-term injury (which, admittedly, is a significant concern.) Esquerdinha however is still a kid. He has a lot to learn, but clearly has genuine talent which needs to be nurtured not binned.

Fair, and I'm not saying bin them - Esq especially is far too young with limited experience to discard, but he's at least one loan away from us knowing if he has a place in the squad or not. Currently he's not close to being ready. Larkeche may also surprise me, and we've only seen a small sample size, but at 23 with barely 60 pro appearances and 2 very serious injuries, I don't see him being the set and forget full back you need in this league. I also don't think RND is more than a 6/10 full back. Hunter and I agree on most things but will have to disagree on this one. His strengths, such as they are, are almost exclusively in defending too, which is why I think Sam Field does just as good a job as he does when filling in. Incidentally I think he'd make a decent LCB in a back 3 if we ever played that way. I generally think full back is one of the easier positions to recruit for and coach in football, everything from defensive wingers to converted CBs can do a good job if the system suits them, and there's regularly teams that pick up decent full backs from league one / two, we just did it ourselves with Mbengue.

| RND - Whats occurring ?? on 23:35 - Jan 9 with 826 views | Myke | If he was a stand out defender then he would stand out in an average QPR defence, but in fact he blends right in. Rinsed by the better wingers - of which there are very few - in a very average league. Having said that, he has been vital to us this season, but that is largely due to the paucity of options. He should benefit from having Edward’s to his right, but keep for season and sort out lb in the summer. | | | |
| RND - Whats occurring ?? on 00:39 - Jan 10 with 752 views | LazyFan | RND is a decent player, £2m is about correct. But his wages are stupid high and Sheff U still have to pay em and we wont, which is also correct. Keep him on loan even after this season I would say and this month sign a proper LB. Otherwise, we are holding out for an LB on a free in the summer, whoever that is! | |
