Goal Difference: The team with the superior goal difference (goals scored minus goals conceded) is placed higher.
Goals Scored: If the goal difference is identical, the team that has scored the highest total number of goals in league matches is placed higher.
Head-to-Head Records: If points, goal difference, and goals scored are identical, the team with the higher number of points in head-to-head matches between the tied sides is positioned higher.
Head-to-Head Goal Difference: If still tied, the team with the better goal difference in head-to-head matches is used.
Head-to-Head Goals Scored Away: If still tied, the team with the highest number of away goals scored in head-to-head matches is used.
Number of Wins: If a tie still exists, the highest total number of wins in league matches is used.

Disciplinary Record/Playoff: If teams are still level after the above criteria, a winner is determined by the lowest number of penalty points (disciplinary record). When I were a lad my Dad told me that if points, goals for and against, goal average (in those days) etc were all equal at the end of the season then a team’s final position would be evaluated according to alphabetical order. For years I thought how much easier a supporter of, say, Arsenal could rest in comparison to, say, a Wolverhampton Wanderers fan, secure in the knowledge that if all these conditions were met then your team would prevail. | | | |

I do remember that in 1976 the Football League had approached Wembley to ask if they would host any playoff between Rangers & Norwich.
It had been a disinct possibility until our defeat at Norwich. If we'd lost 1-0 instead of 3-2, we would have been in a far better position. Not that this mattered when we ended up one point behind! | | | |

Took me a while to figure out that weird thing in Scotland too (link attached in lieu of my complete inability to explain it) where the League splits in two after 33 games, occasionally resulting in the 7th placed team at the end of the season finishing with more points than the 6th. Or something.
