Neil Warnock is back on 11:30 - Oct 18 by DWQPR

The old QPR has always been happy to hire and fire as long as I can remember. Sibley, Burtenshaw, Docherty (twice), Mullery, Howe, Houston, Harford, Waddock, Gregory, De Canio, Dowie, Sousa, Magilton, Harford mk2, Hart never stuck around for long either. And the biggest crime was that Warnock wasn't given the chance to finish that first season back in the Prem.

Just listened to Ramsey speaking about NW appointment on Talksport and it seems very much that it was a club initiated idea and that he was given a choice of people to appoint and that from that list NW was chosen by Ramsey. Didn't seem overly happy with the situation. Give it a few weeks and I suspect that roles will be at best reversed and Clint Hill added as defensive coach. Warnock has unfinished work at the club and I hope he gets the chance to finish it.

every club sacks managers but from the Paladini days until now we've gone miles away from the club we used to be. That doesn't mean we should never sack someone if things aren't working but I just think in days gone by a narrow 2-1 defeat due to a dodgy penalty wouldn't provoke a meltdown, these days it does and everyone from the owners to the fans have created this situation with expectations that just can't be met.

Its much more than that though Dave, the reality is that we continually ship goals from awful defending, the first goal yesterday being a case in point, which was a replica of the goal against Hull, the substitutions were once again poor and to continually play the likes of Carl Henry, when you even have Michael Doughty on the bench, when lets remember he played ninety minutes in the only game we haven't conceded in this season as Henry was on paternity leave only to be dropped for the following game, and this from a manager who stated he wanted to give the kids a chance. Ramsey panicked with the substitutions yesterday, if he was going to replace Sandro then at worst Faurlin should have come on as he has been a far better player this season that Toszer. Sorry but the bloke continually leaves me scratching my head.

didn't see the game yesterday so can't really comment on it, i do think he's getting a lot wrong but like with Redknapp I've no confidence at all in the club bringing in the right man or even knowing what kind of man they want so i don't think sacking him will produce much of an improvement

I'm in two minds about this. "Never go back", we often hear, especially if the player/manager was successful before.

Warnock is not a coach, even he admits that. He's more of a man-manager/motivator.

Maybe the plan is to get him in to do that and let Ramsey do the coaching, which he is meant to be good at. Maybe Ramsey is not able to do both or it's stretching him too far so this will spread the load.

Its not just Ramsey he should be advising, but the useless prat who sacked him in the first place!

I'm not convinced that Warnock is the man to take over from Ramsey, but I wouldn't wildly object. But I do think that this 'advisory' arrangement sucks big-time. It very publicly undermines Ramsey and I wish I could believe that was accidental, but I can't. Its a shabby way to treat Ramsey and I'm embarrassed for the club.

@isawqpratwcity 'I do think that this 'advisory' arrangement sucks big-time.'

Not necessarily, *if* Warnock sticks to the role he defined in his Independent column (quoted earlier in this thread). There is a need for someone to advise the board on what is realistic as they don't know about football, and to act as an intermediary as most of them are abroad. Warnock saw the problem of the board having the wrong people in their ear when he was manager.

But surely that is Les' job?

It smacks of a desperately ill thought out act that does nothing but confirm the continuing inability of those in charge to show that they have learnt anything about what it takes to build a football club in their 4 years of losing a quarter of a billion pounds.

Quite staggering when you think about it. Sorry to harp on about the Swanseas and Southamptons of this world but when you read articles about all their innovative work off and on the pitch or even clubs like Norwich who at the very least have enough footballing nous to go and find excellent young managers and then think that 4 years and a quarter of a billion pounds later all our leaders can think of is to give a job to a (well past his sell by date) man who they sacked for being out of his depth before, you can be left in no doubt that the club are a million miles from being well run.

That's why many of us aren't calling for Ramsey's head even though he is clearly struggling in some major ways. Just the thought that there might be a real attempt at some stability (including the difficult times that come with that) has been enough for us to look for the positives in the last 5 months. But then we get a week like the last one where TF and Les blatantly tell us we have different aims from the ones they told us a while back and we bring in a footballing dinosaur (albeit one who gave us one great season) to help move the club forward.

Luckily for me it's gone well past the point where I can take it too seriously.

Except for when I do.

I don't suppose anybody has a link to Ramsey's comments? I could only find the first 90 minutes of the program.

I have to admit, when I saw Warnock's enormous head on the Offish on Saturday morning I took it as a hopeful sign. I'm much less convinced now. When Ramsey was interviewed after the match the last question was about Warnock coming in. It's obviously very easy to read things into a response in that situation, but it certainly didn't seem like a positive in Ramsey's mind - not from his split second, flat response.

So if it wasn't his idea then Les is giving a false impression and it's most probably related one way or another to Tony's visit.

The other thing is those who are reminding us about Warnock not being a coach are dead right, and if I remember rightly by the end of his reign there were various murmurings about the person who was doing most of the coaching, Keith Curle.

Basically if they were going to put a piece of paper in front of him and demand he hire somebody it should've been a defensive coach, and this new set-up has Women and Children First written all over it but I hope I'm wrong - maybe I've just got the Monday hump.

Smacks of yet another "here's someone the fans like. This'll keep them happy" move, rather than something that will actually have any real purpose.

But people saying Warnock should take over and should never have been sacked should cast their minds back: there wasn't much argument that the board made the right decision to get rid of him last time round, even if people were regretful rather than angry at him. But we do all love our rose-tinted spectacles.

We all need to remember that after promotion Warnock was left with just about the last week of the transfer window when he was allowed to spend any money. By that time all his targets had gone and he was left with the dregs that nobody else wanted. His mistake after that was to say that the team would start playing after the January transfer window when there was again little choice and he added more dross. This suggested to me that NW wasn't really a Premiership Manager, but was really good in the Championship.

After sacking Warnock we brought in Mark Hughes who couldn't do any better with the players he had until he started playing most of the old Championship team. We now have a squad with most of the 'bad eggs' eliminated, that should be as good or better than Warnock's promoted team, but who are not performing at that level. We have a manager and DoF who between them seem to have problems finding the right defensive players and setting up our defence, so can Warnock do it? Or is the problem that we have recruited too many midfielders instead of getting better specialist defenders and the real problem that we don't have a commanding leader at centre back. If its the defensive players that are inadequate, can Warnock find younger versions of Hill and Derry to fit those roles or do we need to drag Clint back into the team because nobody else is up to it?

the more i think about it the more it sounds like something from that programme a few years back called big ron manager
where the experienced man (big ron) went in as an "advisor" to help the youth team coach
as i recall things didnt end well on and off the pitch and nor can i see this ending well either for Warnock or Ramsey
this sounds to me as if TF knows he has dropped a clanger in appointing Ramsey and gets in NW as the fans favourite to divert the blame from him

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

Unless my memory is failing, Warnock was sacked before he got to buy anyone in the January window. It was Hughes who added Cisse, Zamora, Diakite (loan). Probably better additions than SWP, A Ferdinand, Barton, Traore, Young and Puncheon (loan hardly used).

Think Dave Mc is bang on with this. The old QPR would give someone time and if they agreed on a long term plan that would mean we don't go straight back up but take time to build a team then that is what they would do rather than change their minds after 10 games and want instant promotion again. I don't think anyone is coming out of this well.

The owners are showing they really have no idea what they want or how to get it. Les and Ramsey are looking a touch weak for agreeing to what is quite honestly their replacement coming in. The fans are looking like complete spoilt brats unable to accept a narrow defeat due to a dodgy penalty without jumping up and down and screaming for change again. I really don't like what we have become

i want a long term plan , i want a long term manager , im not bothered about the prem
but Ramsey isnt that man and never will be , for all the talk of young kids and up an coming players we still play flapper Green and Karl friggin henry
as for the defence its a joke
Ramsey has had 8 months and we are still a shambles he cant make a sub and we still play one up top
i would take Derry and hill with warnock helping thats got to be better than what we have now

If you (and others) want a long term plan, then you cannot demand short term solutions. Initially, I thought the fanbase had bought into the revised philosophy, as stated by Les. That lasted 75 minutes into the first game of the season.
Since then, it's got worse.

Many of us have reservations about CR and for a multitude of reasons. But, unless 12th in the table after 11 games is a catastrophe, then we ought to give it a good deal longer.

do you not think that conceding 2 or more goals a game
getting knocked out the cup by carlisle and getting tonked by your rivals not a catastrophe

I'd say it was poor and needs improving but not a catastrophe. We got out of the cup to a different league two side every year so I've become numb to those. I'd give Ramsey until Christmas and if things don't improve then change it but to get that time he's going to need two good home performances this week otherwise he's got no chance

Just to add and as clarified by Clive in his post mortem/match analysis we have been getting beaten heavily in derbies in recent years as well irrespective of the manager. So really it comes down to league position and imo 12th is not a catastrophe.

I would have given Ramsey the whole season or until we were in a relegation battle and maybe the F&F would have done as well but they've now gone and made Ramseys position almost impossible with both of them coming out with this promotion/up your game/results business rhetoric in the last week. And then just to twist the knife they appoint Warnock and announce it on the morning of a game.

Fernandes quite clearly has no idea what he's doing. The good idea of bringing in Ferdinand as DOF and talking consolidation and building has been discarded by mid October. We now want promotion and when the inevitable happens and we're falling short at mid table he'll panic again. And then off we go again.

I can only see this ridiculous cycle being changed with new owners...

I've got the Power.
