Danny Ward, who we were after from Rotherham before we signed Matt Smith, goes to Cardiff for £1m rising to £1.6m. Was impressed with him at their place but thought he looked fat and lazy at ours. Cardiff have also signed our old boy Lee Camp.

Villa my favourites for car crash of the season now.

Bruce is quite good at this level isn't he, and I really rate Kodija, Hourihane etc, so they might be ok, but yeh they look all set to be QPR 2.0 with mad Asian owner all over Twitter and a whole load of bank busting signings from 2006's sticker album.

Bit much to call Baker "excellent" IMO - £4m for him isn't so bad - but yeah, a reliable straightforward limited head-it-away Championship CB. His partnership with Chester seemed like pretty much the only thing at Villa that didn't need sorting out, let alone replacing with Terry and Samba FFS.

Can only assume they've got one eye on FFP now (they still can't shift Micah and Amavi on 50k a week each) or the young lad Bedeau they signed last year is progressing quickly.

James Bree is a right back IIRC which makes the Elmohamedy move six months later (to go with Hutton) look even sillier. Guess maybe Bree might be the third CB in a 3-5-2 like Bruce did at Hull.

They will need to keep both eyes on FFP with what Samba & Terry will be costing in wages.

I find it impossible to believe that will be less than Baker.

Nathan Baker going from Villa to Bristol City permanently. Villa offloading an excellent 26 year old centre back they spent years developing through their academy to make way for Chris Samba and Big Racist John.

Does this also mean Aiden Flint is going to Arry's money farm :-(

Thought he was going to Leeds with City's left back Joe Bryan.

The Leeds journo that broke the story says that they were trying to negotiate a lower fee before Brum stepped in for the full asking price - between £4m and £5m.

Flint has been making suggestive "likes" on social media about Leeds though so who knows.

If that's the going rate for Baker and Flint (and Hanley and Duffy last year) then it only underlines how Wisdom and Davies for the price of Cyrus Christie really was fine business from Derby.

Among Villa's successes last season, £12m McCormack scored 3 goals in 20 appearances before being booted out on loan to Forest. Even inflation adjusted that's a far worse goal per pound ratio than Hateley!

Football Genius Garry Monk is now bidding big for James Perch's long lost idiot twin Ryan Shotton. Birmingham, in an attempt to summon Cthulhu, are holding out for £5m however.

"Harry Redknapp has warned Birmingham City face a “difficult” season if they do not strengthen further."

A complete parody of a man! Expect to see 2 keepers on the bench for them for either their first game or for the carling cup match (or both)

Forest also close with Kevin McDonald from Fulham apparently, decent signing for the right price, surprised to hear Fulham are OK selling him as he was good for them last year and only been there 1 season

What an absolute cnt. You just know that two keepers on the bench malarky is round the corner don't you. Or throwing some 17 year old kid to the lions to make the point that that's all he's got (loved it when Tom Hitchcock smacked that one back down the wicket v Ipswich).

Shotton 5 million, WTF, I wouldn't give you 250k for him , he is worse than perch and that's saying something
with all of this madness and andre gray to wolves for 20 million this could turn out to be the best transfer window rangers have since they signed Peacock, Brevett and Tilson back in 1991
we are best of out of it and if we only buy scowen and say bogle for 800k that would be a decent summer

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

With Wolves spending colossal amounts of money they clearly don't have can I assume Rangers have got off FFP scot free?

Gonna be interesting - the hostile reception for a manager who won the £120m game at Wembley and gave many of us our most enjoyable day out as he returns, twitching and bullshitting, to Loftus Road.

I don't think he'll get a hostile reception. If our season is going as many fear it will then it'll all be "wewll at least he facking won a few games" and "wewd be a lot bettah off wiv im in charge now" from the same people who think Joey Barton was a good player for us who should still be around.

Once you get off this message board the amount of people who fail to realise we're in this state now because of Redknapp/Hughes/Fernandes and actually it's Hoos/Holloway/Ferdinand/Ramsey/JFH who've been trying to mop it up and deal with it is frightening.

What Wolves fans seem to believe is that - FFP is calculated over a three year period and prior to being bought Wolves were run very frugally; and large transfer fees are amortised over the length of contract. Basically this is the last year they can do this, they're going all out, and if they aren't promoted now they'll be buggered.

Worth keeping in mind that their manager Nuno is little more than a Mendes yes-man who has made a complete pig's ear of his previous gigs (the last of which featured £15m Neves sat on the bench in tears).

Yes they're absolutely putting the whole house on red. Leicester, Bournemouth and ourselves did the same and went up. Blackburn and Forest did the same and didn't and are in a proper state as a result.

In fairness they could probably get most of their money back tomorrow on Neves, Cavaleiro etc - and many others are on loan or easily shifted around Mendes' other puppet clubs. So it is a vaguely calculated gamble compared to many other examples.

I wish them ill mainly because the whole thing has really provoked something ugly and dormant (... and considerably richer than yow) in Wolves' fanbase. They all seem to really think Mendes is a decent stand-up guy who just wants to revive the sleepiest giant of them all and the southern media just have it in for him/them/Stan Cullis. Mouthbreather populism at its finest.

All clubs are like that when you get a new owner or shiny stadium. We were with Briatore and then Fernandes, Coventry were with the Ricoh Arena, Hull were with the Allams.

Yeah, there's a reason I've never changed my avatar all these years... still, Wolves' version seems weirdly extreme and irrationally resentful though - even Leeds fans are less deluded about their place in history.
