Expelled/sacked or something or other from Union Berlin I think. Any German speakers on board?

... and then promptly split up with his wife.

Was it worthwhile him leaving London I wonder?

I thought there were some rumours of him err, playing few away games while he was here and part of why he went back to Berlin was to stop some of his err, scoring habits?

He’d get plenty of goals in our current team with some proper service. He’s no worse than Hugill at shooting and a real menace at set pieces.

As Baz suggests, if Warbs already saw off Big Mathieu and BFG2 he'd have no time for Seb.

Think you severely underrate Hugill but a comparison with Polter is a good way into that.

This is a bit of an assumption on my part, but it appears they are bombing him out for now wanting to take a pay cut, when he only has a guaranteed salary for another 6 weeks before becoming a free agent - and in this current climate no idea when you will be earning again (I would be willing to bet they had already told him he wasnt getting another one, otherwise you would probably take the money on offer at the moment).

If my assumptions, and I accept it is purely assumptions, are correct, you can hardly blame a footballer for that, working class club or not, given there are thousands of footballers in that position across the whole of Europe.

Still, burn him at the stake perhaps?

Not sure anyone has burned him at the stake. The worse that has been said is that it look like he's been a bit of a bastard.

My missus called me that for using her moisturiser this morning.

Sorry Baz, didnt mean people on this thread, more those in Germany.

Can't comment on any extra-curricular activities he may or may not have been up to whilst here, never really heard of such rumours before

Ah cool.

Does seem odd that a Club would mentioned it publicly.

He rarely starts, Andersson, his namesake Swedish International generally does and is far more effective. This happened last season too.
Polter will probably drop back to Bundesliga 2.

Scored 12 goals in a season we finished 18th. We might have gone down had he not.

I think he would of scored more than a few extra in this team. Any striker is going to struggle in a hasselbaink team

I guess, I've probably forgotten a bit, also forgotten he was in a JFH side, which was quite painfully poorly set up.

Baz I think you mean Sylla scored 12 goals in 2016/17.

Polter scored 10 (+ 1 in the league cup) in 51 (+5 lc) appearances over his total time with us.

This sounds a bit less impressive.

Maybe he's been editing his own Wikipedia page!

'He finished the 2015—16 season with seven goals in 33 appearances.[6] During the 2016—17 season for Queens Park Rangers, he scored 12 goals in 23 appearances.[6]'

Edit: Don't trust Wikipedia.

Of the little I saw of him, I think the fondly remembered quote of Stewart Houston about, a thousand like him on Hackney Marshes, was more applicable to Polter than the bloke it was originally aimed at.

But, Polter did at least try, which was never a given with some of his predecessors.

Baz it may say that in the summary but when you look at the career stats it says 4 in 20 league appearances in 2016/17.

I originally checked it because, as much as I liked him for his mixture of skill and clumsiness as well as his enthusiasm, I couldn't remember him scoring more than a handful of goals for us.

Yeah I stand totally corrected.

Was curious what his goal rate was, and didn't read past that sentence.

I still maintain we were better off with him, because if I remember right he was our only forward a lot of the tine.

He was definitely a target man first, goalscorer second. I liked him, although I would prefer a bit more skill from whoever our next strikers are.

Didn't we have Sylla at the same time and of course we mustn't forget CW!

Yeah, my German wife caught the 'Gladbach vs Union hilights on TV and called me in to see the comical human cut-outs on the seats. Just in time to see the players walking off and the commentator explaining that nobody was shaking hands or elbows with Seb because he was the only player who had refused to take a pay cut.

Seb Polter on 00:39 - Jun 1 with 997 viewsBrianMcCarthy

I always liked Polter, I thought he was coachable. He scored one goal into the School End that was classic Ferdinand, laid off on the half-way line, ran like hell and met the cross with a sweet header, showing touch, understanding, some pace and a cool finish. It was Les of 1990.

The difference is that Les had a higher ceiling, incredible dedication, but also better coaches and players around him.

The " comical cut outs" heve more than paud their way!

I think they said the 'gladbach had sold 13,000 at 19 euros per head. That's an income of 247,000 euros, which will help pay for the cost of staging the games.
