Remember the majority of the time the ‘workplace’ is the training ground, the circa 3 hours in the stadium on match-days are a relatively small part of the job for Club Captain.
I heard an interesting interview with Vincent Kompany where he explained that most of the role is similar to being a shop steward providing a buffer / conduit between the management of the club and the ‘workers’.*
So there is some logic in appointing the senior pro and Cameron definitely counts as senior in this squad.

I was surprised he was chosen as I didn't see him as a regular in the starting line-up but thought he showed his value today. Maybe a shaky start but seemed to get stronger as the game went on and liked the leadership he showed following both goals.
